Original job description

Accountant (Contract)

We are seeking a versatile, task-oriented Accountant (Contract) to join the finance team of a leading Calgary-based organization on a 6-month contract assignment. Supporting a busy division undergoing integration and transition activities, this individual will play a vital role in taking over key operational accounting duties, managing cash reconciliations, and freeing up capacity across the senior finance team.

Located fully onsite in downtown Calgary, you will report functionally to senior leadership within the group, collaborating closely with a supportive team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Your Success Will Be Defined By Your Ability To

  • Oversee and execute weekly cash and transaction reconciliations, including bank reconciliations and field ATM cash reports, utilizing Microsoft Excel and Dynamics 365 (D365).
  • Assist in month-end close activities, including inventory costing support, revenue recognition, and GL balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Support interim and year-end audit preparation by compiling audit schedules, variance explanations, and responding to auditor queries.
  • Participate in monthly financial reporting and operational variance analysis to support business stakeholders with timely financial information.
  • Maintain flexibility to step in on ad-hoc financial tasks, clean-up projects, and cross-functional support as integration requirements evolve.

Your Strengths Include:

  • 1–2+ years of hands-on business, operational, or corporate finance/accounting experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and enterprise accounting software (hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365, Solver, or PowerBI is considered a strong asset).
  • High degree of self-motivation, assertiveness, and eagerness to ask questions and learn new workflows.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a proven track record of thriving in a team-oriented, collaborative setting.
  • Adaptable, "roll-up-your-sleeves" mindset with the willingness to navigate changing priorities during corporate transitions.
