Our Calgary-based technology client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Accounting Contractor to support its growing finance team during a recent departure in-house. This role will be responsible for the accounting, analysis, and financial reporting of cash flows, hedging, intercompany transactions, debt and financing activities, and other complex accounting areas. The role prepares and analyzes journal entries, account reconciliations and financial reporting schedules, supports quarterly and annual reporting requirements, collaborates with cross-functional business partners, and contributes to process and control improvements that enhance the accuracy, efficiency and integrity of financial reporting.

Your Success Will Be Defined By Your Ability To
- Prepare and post monthly journal entries for transactions impacting the financial statements;
- Support quarterly and annual financial reporting compliant with US GAAP, including preparation of financial statement disclosures;
- Perform account analysis and monthly account reconciliations;
- Identify, analyze, and reconcile inconsistent information in order to recommend adjustments where necessary;
- Assess the accounting and reporting implications of significant financial transactions and prepare related disclosures;
- Identify and implement process improvements that support a timely close and enhance the accuracy and efficiency of financial reporting;
- Ensure accounting and reporting processes comply with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP), Tax or securities regulation as applicable and SOX requirements; and
- Address and respond to queries from auditors and internal reviewers.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or Economics
- CPA designated or training towards a CPA designation;
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in related financial roles;
- Knowledge of US GAAP requirements, desirable;
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality;
- Ability to meet deadlines and work independently in a fast-paced environment;
- Strong written and verbal communication Skills;

Responsibilities
Prepare and post journal entries, analyze and reconcile accounts, and support quarterly and annual financial reporting, including disclosures for complex transactions involving cash flows, hedging, intercompany activity, debt, and financing. Improve close processes and controls, ensure compliance with US GAAP and applicable regulatory and SOX requirements, and respond to auditors and internal reviewers.
Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or Economics is required, along with a CPA designation or progress toward one. Candidates should have at least three years of relevant financial experience, knowledge of US GAAP (desirable), strong attention to detail and communication skills, and the ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
