Original job description

Junior Project Controls Analyst

We are seeking a detail-oriented, highly analytical Junior Project Controls Analyst to join the project support team of a prominent Calgary-based organization in the energy and utility sector. Supporting a dedicated portfolio of early-development and customer-funded transmission projects, this individual will play a key role in maintaining project financial data, executing cost control activities, and ensuring tight alignment across project schedules and budgets.

Reporting directly to the Manager of Project Support, you will focus on core financial monitoring, SAP project setup, monthly cost reporting, and change control management throughout the full project lifecycle from development to closeout.

Your Success Will Be Defined By Your Ability To

  • Setup and maintain complex project structures within SAP following established organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Prepare and manage financial project controls encompassing project setup, cost estimates, forecasts, customer billings, and formal project close-outs.
  • Interface directly with Project Managers, delivery teams, and external vendors to align cost estimates and forecasts with project execution schedules.
  • Perform in-depth cost analysis, conduct project cost performance assessments, and advise Project Managers on risk assessments, suitable cost allowances, and category tracking.
  • Prepare and issue high-integrity project cost reports and monthly status reports for executive and program reviews.
  • Execute change control management procedures, identify budget or milestone risks, and assist with developing remedial action plans.
  • Ensure strict compliance with corporate, regulatory, and GAAP accounting policies within a regulated utility framework.

Your Strengths Include:

  • Post-secondary degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related combination of education and experience.
  • 1+ years of direct experience managing complex transmission, customer, or infrastructure project controls. Prior experience in an EPC/EPCm environment or regulated utility is considered a strong asset.
  • Strong technical proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel), with a proven aptitude for learning SAP ERP modules (Finance, Controlling, Project Systems, Materials Management, and Plant Maintenance).
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to perform fast, accurate data manipulation under tight deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Clear communication and strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively across cross-functional internal teams, external contractors, and clients.
