Company Description

Recycle City is a comprehensive waste management and recycling company that delivers innovative, eco-friendly solutions for businesses and homeowners across Southern Ontario. For over a decade, the organization has specialized in tailored, fast, and efficient waste management strategies that support sustainability and cost-effectiveness. Services range from public waste and recycling drop-off and disposal bin rentals to commercial recycling programs for cardboard, paper, plastics, and construction materials. Recycle City also provides secure product destruction and custom business recycling programs to help clients reduce environmental impact and meet operational goals. Proudly local and independently owned, the company is recognized as Hamilton’s trusted partner for smarter, greener waste and recycling solutions.

Job Description

The Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating daily transportation activities across a fleet of company drivers and equipment. The successful candidate will build efficient schedules, optimize routes, monitor transportation activity in real time, and work closely with drivers, operations teams, and customers to ensure safe and on-time pick-ups.

This role requires strong communication skills, a sense of urgency, and the ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.

What you're responsible for:

Plan and dispatch daily transportation requirements across multiple locations.
Optimize routes and schedules to maximize fleet productivity and minimize transportation costs.
Coordinate pickups, deliveries, transfers, and material movements between AIM facilities and customer locations.
Monitor driver activity, equipment availability, and transportation performance throughout the day.
Communicate effectively with drivers regarding schedules, route changes, delays, and customer requirements.
Work closely with yard operations, site managers, and transportation leadership to prioritize workloads and address operational challenges.
Respond quickly to service disruptions, equipment issues, traffic delays, and changing business needs.
Track key transportation metrics including utilization, on-time performance, and load efficiency.
Ensure compliance with transportation regulations, company policies, and safety standards.
Maintain accurate records within dispatch, fleet management, and transportation systems.
Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve transportation performance and customer service.

Qualifications

Strong coordination and logistics skills, including route planning, scheduling, and prioritizing multiple service requests.
Effective communication and customer service skills for interacting with drivers, operations teams, and business or residential clients.
Proficiency with dispatch or routing software, GPS tracking tools, and basic computer applications (e.g., email, spreadsheets, data entry).
Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities for managing changes, handling service issues, and maintaining accurate records.
Knowledge of waste management, recycling operations, or related transportation services is an asset.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, make sound decisions under time pressure, and adapt to evolving operational needs.
Reliable, organized, and able to work both on-site in Hamilton, ON and remotely as needed.
Relevant experience in dispatching, operations coordination, or logistics; post-secondary education in a related field is an advantage.
