Journeyman Machinist

BASIC FUNCTIONS

The Journeyman Machinist is responsible for the safe and efficient setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of conventional, CNC, and portable machining equipment utilized by Red Flame Industries. This position supports shop and field operations through the manufacture, repair, and modification of precision components and tooling.

The Journeyman Machinist must be capable of performing flange-facing, cold-cutting, and beveling operations, including machining and repairing large-diameter flanges exceeding 30 inches. All work shall be completed in accordance with company standards, customer specifications, and applicable industry regulations.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Journeyman Machinist Ticket/Certification
• 
  
• Red Seal Certification considered an asset
• 
  
• Minimum 5 years of machining experience in manufacturing, industrial maintenance, fabrication, or field machining environments
• 
  
• Demonstrated experience with manual and CNC machining equipment
• 
  
• Proven experience performing flange-facing and cold-cutting operations
• 
  
• Capability to machine and repair large-diameter flanges (30"+)
• 
  
• Strong blueprint reading, measurement, and troubleshooting skills
• 
  
• Valid Class 5 Driver's License with ability to travel to customer sites
• 
  
• The internal training for this position will be identified within the Red Flame Industries Training
• 
  

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The Journeyman Machinist will report directly to the Project Manager, Director of Mechanical Services and their designee from time to time.

The Journeyman Machinist will work closely with Operations, Engineering, Inspection, Manufacturing Technicians, and Field Operations personnel as required

AUTHORITY

The Journeyman Machinist has the authority to operate machining equipment, perform machining and field service work, verify completed work, and recommend corrective actions required to ensure quality and compliance with customer specifications.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform machining activities safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company quality standards.

• Set up and operate manual, CNC, and portable machining equipment
• 
  
• Perform flange-facing operations, including large-diameter flanges exceeding 30 inches.

• Perform cold-cutting and beveling operations in both shop and field environments.
• 
  
• Ensure all machining work meets customer specifications, applicable standards, and Red Flame Industries requirements

Additional Responsibilities

• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and work instructions.
• 
  
• Manufacture, repair, and modify precision components and tooling
• 
  
• Verify dimensions and tolerances using precision measuring instruments.
• 
  
• Assist with quality control, inspection, and preparation of tooling and job packages.
• 
  
• Provide mentorship and guidance to apprentices and junior personnel as required.
• 
  
• Assume responsibility for the care, maintenance, and housekeeping of equipment and work areas.
• 
  

DUTIES

• 
  
• Set up, operate, and maintain conventional and CNC machine tools.
• 
  
• Perform flange-facing operations using portable machining equipment.
• 
  
• Machine, repair, and restore flange faces, including diameters exceeding 30 inches.
• 
  
• Perform cold-cutting and beveling operations on piping and pressure-containing equipment.
• 
  
• Verify dimensions of machined parts using precision measuring instruments.
• 
  
• Measure, examine, and test completed parts to ensure conformance with specifications and blueprints
• 
  
• Fit and assemble machine components and machined parts to industry standards.
• 
  
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• 
  
• Complete inspection reports and related documentation as required
• 
  
• Other duties as required.
•

• Complete all safety training as required by Red Flame Industries Policies and Industrial Regulations.

• Report hazards, incidents, and unsafe conditions immediately

• Participate in the Red Flame Industries Health and Safety Program as necessary.

MEASUREMENT OF PERFORMANCE

• The Journeyman Machinist will be deemed to be performing in a satisfactory manner when the following have been met or exceeded:

• 
  
• Machining, flange-facing, and cold-cutting projects are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.
• 
  
• Parts and equipment consistently meet quality and dimensional requirements.
• 
  
• Equipment and work areas are maintained in a safe and serviceable condition.
• 
  
• Compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety standards is maintained.
