We are looking for a hands-on Packaging Engineer who enjoys developing packaging solutions, solving technical challenges, and working closely with manufacturing teams to bring products from concept through commercialization.

This position offers the opportunity to work across a variety of packaging formats, materials, and product formulations while contributing to packaging innovation, manufacturing efficiency, cost reduction, and sustainability initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Packaging Design & Development: Develop and improve primary and secondary packaging, including plastic bottles, containers, closures, flexible films, pouches, and dispensing systems.
  • Materials & Compatibility: Evaluate packaging materials, including HDPE, PET, PP, and flexible films, to ensure compatibility with product formulations and required performance characteristics.
  • Testing & Validation: Plan and conduct packaging performance testing, including drop, compression, vibration, leak, closure torque, and product compatibility testing.
  • Manufacturing Support: Collaborate with production and engineering teams to ensure packaging performs reliably on filling and packaging equipment.
  • Packaging Commercialization: Support new product introductions, packaging trials, validation activities, and transitions into commercial production.
  • Supplier Collaboration: Work directly with packaging suppliers on container and closure development, material selection, specifications, and technical improvements.
  • Continuous Improvement: Troubleshoot packaging-related quality issues, improve manufacturing performance, and identify opportunities for packaging cost reduction.
  • Sustainability: Support initiatives involving packaging light-weighting, recycled materials, PCR content, and improved recyclability.
  • Technical Documentation: Develop and maintain packaging specifications, drawings, material requirements, and testing documentation.
  • Project Coordination: Work cross-functionally with R&D, manufacturing, procurement, quality, and other departments to manage packaging projects and development timelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on packaging engineering, packaging design, or packaging development experience.
  • Practical experience developing, testing, or improving rigid or flexible packaging systems, particularly plastic containers, bottles, closures, or films.
  • Knowledge of packaging materials and experience evaluating packaging performance and material compatibility with liquid, gel, or chemically formulated products.
  • Experience with packaging testing, validation, technical troubleshooting, and packaging-related problem-solving.
  • Experience working with manufacturing or packaging operations, including supporting packaging trials, production improvements, or commercialization activities.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in any of the following areas would be particularly valuable:

  • Packaging development within consumer packaged goods, household cleaning products, personal care, cosmetics, specialty chemicals, or industrial manufacturing.
  • High-speed liquid filling and packaging operations.
  • Blow-molded plastic containers, dispensing systems, trigger sprayers, pumps, specialized closures, or flexible packaging.
  • Packaging performance testing using ASTM or ISTA standards.
  • Packaging sustainability initiatives, including PCR materials and material reduction.
  • Child-resistant packaging, regulated chemical packaging, or DOT/UN packaging requirements.
  • Working directly for a packaging manufacturer or supplier in a packaging engineering or development capacity.
