REEL CANADA is hiring a full-time Assistant Manager to join our communications department starting in October 2026.

REEL CANADA is a charitable not-for-profit whose mission is to introduce audiences to Canadian film and engage them in a conversation about identity and culture. We run year-round school programmes and annually present National Canadian Film Day - our country’s largest celebration of Canadian film - every April.

Our organization thrives on a collaborative and friendly team atmosphere. The successful candidate has a passion for cinema and Canadian culture and wants to make an important

contribution to the cultural life of this country.

The Assistant Manager will be responsible for ensuring consistent, cohesive messaging across all platforms. They will facilitate the execution of communication initiatives across our websites, blogs, and various newsletters for diverse audiences.

REEL CANADA welcomes candidates with diverse identities and lived experiences.

REEL CANADA is a hybrid work environment after the first month, with staff working in the office at College and Bathurst in Toronto two days per week, and working remotely for the remainder of the week (subject to change). To integrate new staff smoothly, we require them to work in the office four days per week for the first month.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Communications Manager, the Assistant Manager will be responsible for the following:

Overseeing the management of email lists and the creation, scheduling and delivery of monthly e-newsletters to key audiences, ensuring timely, engaging and targeted communications.
Support regular updates on our two company WordPress websites.
Work with Senior Communications Manager and coordinators to produce social media campaigns that promote REEL CANADA’s programmes to new and existing audiences.
Collect and prepare data, and report on key analytics related to email campaigns, social media, and website performance.
Manage ad campaigns, deliverables and deadlines.
Produce written website, blog and newsletter content.
Maintain organization of the communications folders, assets, and archives
Keep a pulse on Canadian film news
Support the Senior Communications Manager as necessary

Qualifications

5+ years of professional work experience in communications/marketing
Professional experience in marketing, brand communications, and social media management.
A demonstrated ability to write using different tones and writing styles
Practical experience using design software such as Canva, Photoshop, InDesign etc.
Knowledge of WordPress is necessary.
Proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets and Word/Google Docs.
Advanced Social Media Proficiency. Must have an in-depth understanding of the various platforms Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Threads, LinkedIn, Letterboxd) and current social trends.
Proven ability to organize and manage projects from start to finish.
Comfortable using Zoom and similar video conferencing services.
Ability to manage several different deadlines simultaneously.
Strong attention to detail; we actually mean it. Copy-editing experience is an asset.
Strong calendar/schedule management.
Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills.
Familiarity with Google Analytics is a strong asset.
Familiarity with Google AdWords is an asset.
Familiarity with Mailchimp is an asset.
Familiarity with Airtable and/or Salesforce is an asset.
Familiarity with the Canadian film industry and landscape is a strong asset.
Fluent or advanced French is a strong asset.

What REEL CANADA offers:
