This role owns day-to-day site performance: coaching and developing the pharmacy team, collaborating with the dermatology clinic next door and other healthcare partners, partnering with upper management on new projects and operational initiatives, meeting agreed KPIs, and sustaining a patient-centred culture of pharmaceutical care with a dermatology focus.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care and Dispensing
- Review, interpret, and verify prescriptions for accuracy, therapeutic appropriateness, and potential interactions.
- Prepare and dispense medications in accordance with regulatory and safety standards; support Level C compounding operations (training provided) and provide final professional verification where required.
- Provide professional consultation and counselling to patients on medication use, side effects, adherence, and related care.
- Collaborate with physicians, the dermatology clinic next door, other healthcare facilities, and interdisciplinary team members to optimize patient care and treatment outcomes - especially in dermatology-focused therapies.
- Act in the patient’s best interest by supporting patient-centred care through full professional scope of practice and delivery of pharmacy clinical programs.
People Leadership and Collaboration
- Lead, schedule, coach, train, and direct pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, assistants, and administrative staff to meet quality and patient-care standards.
- Manage selection, onboarding, training, performance management, and succession planning for the pharmacy team (in partnership with HR as applicable).
- Determine staffing requirements, balance labour to workload, and resolve day-to-day people and workflow issues.
- Role-model and reinforce customer-service and patient-experience standards for all team members.
- Build a supportive, motivating, and inclusive team culture that maximizes each member’s potential
- Collaborate closely with other healthcare facilities, clinic partners, and internal/external team members to support coordinated care and seamless patient experience.
- Partner with upper management on integrating new projects, programs, and strategic or operational initiatives; help plan rollout, train the team, and sustain adoption on site.
Operations, Inventory, and Quality
- Plan, organize, direct, control, and evaluate daily pharmacy operations and workflows.
- Oversee inventory levels, ordering, receiving, storage, and procurement of pharmaceuticals and supplies; maintain product availability and control shrinkage.
- Maintain accurate patient, prescription, inventory, and controlled-substance records in accordance with CPhM standards, The Pharmaceutical Act (Manitoba), and applicable law.
- Establish, implement, and maintain written policies and procedures for safe and effective pharmacy practice as expected of a pharmacy manager under Manitoba standards.
- Lead quality assurance, audit readiness, safety reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives; investigate deviations and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Ensure ordering, receiving, and storage practices follow prescribed guidelines and organizational SOPs.
Financial, Compliance and performance
- Drive site performance against agreed KPIs and business plans, including sales/service targets, margins, labour control, and operational efficiency where assigned.
- Ensure prescriptions are billed correctly to public and third-party payers; support special-authorization and insurance processes as applicable.
- Ensure full compliance with federal and Manitoba provincial legislation, Health Canada requirements, CPhM standards of practice and practice directions, and company policies (including OHS and loss-prevention practices); train staff accordingly.
- Support pharmacy-manager designation responsibilities as assigned (including completion of CPhM’s mandatory Pharmacy Manager Training Program within required timelines once designated).
- Manage controlled substances in adherence to applicable laws and documentation requirements
- Resolve patient, customer, and supply issues promptly and professionally; escalate as needed to the Owner / Director.
- Execute pharmacy programs and service launches that improve patient care and support business goals, in collaboration with upper management.
Role Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BScPharm) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited institution.
- Current registration and active licence in good standing with the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba (CPhM), without restrictions or conditions (or eligibility to obtain Manitoba licensure before start).
- Eligible to be designated as pharmacy manager under The Pharmaceutical Act (Manitoba) and CPhM requirements, as assigned.
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in retail pharmacy.
- Strong knowledge of drug therapy management, dispensing practice, and clinical protocols relevant to community/retail pharmacy.
