Our Engineering team is at the heart of building banking products that help millions of small businesses succeed. We're on a journey to reinvent banking, and we're looking for Senior Software Engineer IIs to help set the technical direction for how we get there. You'll take on our highest-risk, most ambiguous work, spot the problems that matter before anyone assigns them, and bring teams together around solutions that move the business forward.

What You'll Be Doing

Technical Direction: Lead architecture and the highest-risk work across interconnected systems, and set practical standards for quality, reliability, security, and maintainability
Cross-Team Delivery: Own ambiguous, cross-team initiatives from problem definition through measurable outcomes by setting priorities, resolving dependencies, and keeping execution moving
Product Judgment: Find important problems before they're assigned, and tie technical decisions to customer needs, business priorities, cost, and risk
Cross-Team Influence: Align teams with different priorities using context, evidence, and sound judgment rather than formal authority
Organizational Improvement: Create practices, tooling, documentation, and guardrails that improve delivery and operational effectiveness across Engineering
Developing Others: Coach engineers and delegate meaningful ownership so you create more technical leaders instead of becoming a bottleneck

Who You Are

You have led architecture for complex, interconnected systems and owned the highest-risk technical decisions
You have driven cross-team initiatives from an ambiguous problem to measurable results
You connect technical trade-offs to customer impact, business priorities, cost, and risk
You influence without authority, aligning teams and stakeholders through context and evidence
You have created standards, tooling, or processes that improved how teams beyond your own deliver and operate
You grow engineers by coaching and delegating real ownership, and you measure your success by the leaders you develop
You thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments and are comfortable navigating ambiguity and change

It's a bonus (but not required) if you

Have worked in startups or high-growth tech companies
Have experience with JavaScript (we primarily use TypeScript, React, and Node.js)
Have working knowledge of AWS services (ECS, S3, RDS, Dynamo, Lambda) and continuous deployment pipelines
Have experience in fintech, banking, or other regulated environments

The Interview Process

Stage 1: A 45-minute Google Meet video call with a member of the Talent team
Stage 2: A 60-minute live coding exercise with two members of the Engineering team
Stage 3: A 60-minute Google Meet video call with two Engineering Leaders
Stage 4: A take-home system design challenge, followed by a 60-minute Google Meet video call review with two members of the Engineering team
Stage 5: A 45-minute in-person interview with a member of the Leadership team

Our Compensation Approach

We believe Relayers should feel rewarded for the impact they have on our mission and growth. Compensation follows impact. As impact increases, compensation grows, and we do not limit compensation changes to a once-a-year review cycle.

The annual salary range for this role is $175,500 CAD to $214,500 CAD.

For candidates who demonstrate full readiness for the defined scope of the role, the typical starting salary is $195,000 CAD. Offers below this point reflect candidates we believe can grow into the full scope of the role with support and development. Offers above this point reflect impact that meaningfully exceeds the role’s defined expectations or an expanded scope from day one.
