Help deploy and support advanced uncrewed aircraft systems across defence, public safety, industrial, and government environments.
Remote Robotic Systems (RRS) is a Canadian robotics and defence-tech company delivering drones, robotic platforms, sensors, payloads, and remote-operations technologies for mission-critical applications.
The Role
We are seeking a hands-on UAS Technician to prepare, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, test, and deploy unmanned aerial systems.
Based primarily on-site in Ottawa (Kanata), this customer-facing role includes field work, travel, demonstrations, flight testing, training support, and collaboration with Engineering, Solutions, and Operations.
What You Will Work On
- Support demonstrations, trials, training, testing, and deployments.
- Complete flight planning, site setup, risk controls, pre-flight and post-flight inspections, and equipment close-out.
- Prepare and operate aircraft, payloads, batteries, communications equipment, ground-control systems, deployment kits, tools, and spare equipment.
- Provide professional technical support to customers and operators.
- Capture operational insights and share feedback with internal teams.
- Inspect, maintain, configure, upgrade, and repair UAS platforms and related equipment.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, electronic, communications, software, payload, and operational issues.
- Execute approved test procedures, collect data, and document findings and corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate equipment, configuration, maintenance, and service records.
- Contribute to procedures, checklists, guides, training materials, equipment readiness, and continuous improvement.
Core Requirements
- Hands-on experience flying drones and supporting UAS operations.
- Valid Transport Canada Basic RPAS Pilot Certificate.
- Experience operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, or repairing drones, robotics, aerospace, aviation, or electromechanical systems.
- Experience working in field operations, product testing, deployment, customer support, military, public safety, or a similar technical environment.
- Working knowledge of UAS platforms, flight operations, batteries, payloads, communications equipment, technical documentation, checklists, and operational safety requirements.
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel.
- Eligibility to work in Canada.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Controlled Goods Program eligibility and any security requirements associated with the role.
Applicants will be assessed primarily on their practical experience operating, supporting, maintaining, and troubleshooting unmanned systems rather than on years of experience alone.
Nice to Have
- Transport Canada Advanced RPAS Pilot Certificate.
- Transport Canada Level 1 Complex Operations (L1C) Pilot Certificate.
- Experience supporting customer demonstrations, field deployments, or operator training.
- Experience with multirotor, FPV, fixed-wing, or VTOL platforms.
- Experience with ArduPilot, PX4, QGroundControl, Mission Planner, or comparable platforms.
- Experience with payload integration, telemetry, communications, ISR, mapping, or sensor systems.
- Experience with flight testing, environmental testing, prototype validation, or root-cause investigations.
- Experience in defence, public safety, emergency response, aviation, military operations, or technical field service.
What Will Make You Successful
- You are hands-on, safety-focused, and methodical when working with equipment and troubleshooting technical issues.
- You take ownership of equipment readiness and operational outcomes.
- You are comfortable balancing field work, testing, maintenance, and customer support.
- You communicate clearly and professionally with customers, operators, and technical teams.
- You work effectively in a fast-paced environment where priorities and operational requirements may change.
What We Offer
