Software Engineer

Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Software Engineer role based in the Greater Vancouver Metropolitan Area. The Software Engineer will design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs that power RentSimple’s AI-driven leasing and communication workflows. Day-to-day responsibilities include implementing new product features, improving system performance and reliability, integrating with external property management platforms, and collaborating with product and data teams to deliver secure, scalable solutions. The role also involves writing clean, maintainable code, conducting code reviews, contributing to technical documentation, and participating in testing and deployment processes. The Software Engineer will work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to translate requirements into technical designs and continuously enhance the platform’s capabilities.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in TypeScript, Node.js, and backend development, with hands-on experience using NestJS or similar frameworks.
• Proven experience building, deploying, and maintaining scalable, production-ready web applications.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs, integrating third-party services, and building reliable backend systems.
• Strong understanding of relational and NoSQL databases, including data modelling, querying, and performance optimization.
• Solid foundation in computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and software architecture.
• Experience with modern cloud infrastructure and deployment platforms, preferably Vercel.
• Familiarity with Git, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software development practices.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to independently troubleshoot technical challenges and deliver effective solutions.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment, taking ownership of projects, and collaborating within a small engineering team.
• Ability to write clean, efficient, and maintainable code while balancing speed, scalability, and reliability.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to Have

• Experience integrating AI models, LLM APIs, or building AI-powered applications.
• Familiarity with real-time communication systems, webhooks, and asynchronous processing.
• Experience working with property management software, CRM integrations, or other third-party enterprise systems.
