Original job description

Company Description RentSimple AI is an AI-powered leasing and resident communication platform designed specifically for multifamily property operators. The platform automates repetitive communication and administrative tasks across the resident lifecycle, from initial leasing inquiries through maintenance, renewals, and delinquency. RentSimple integrates with leading property management and CRM systems to help teams respond faster, decrease manual workload, and improve experiences for prospects and residents. Its capabilities include AI-driven leasing across SMS, email, phone, and chat, automated tour booking, application support, maintenance communication, renewal workflows, delinquency messaging, and portfolio-wide reporting and analytics. RentSimple currently supports more than 30,000 multifamily units across North America, helping owners and operators enhance leasing performance while freeing onsite teams to focus on higher-value work.

Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Software Engineer role based in the Greater Vancouver Metropolitan Area. The Software Engineer will design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs that power RentSimple’s AI-driven leasing and communication workflows. Day-to-day responsibilities include implementing new product features, improving system performance and reliability, integrating with external property management platforms, and collaborating with product and data teams to deliver secure, scalable solutions. The role also involves writing clean, maintainable code, conducting code reviews, contributing to technical documentation, and participating in testing and deployment processes. The Software Engineer will work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to translate requirements into technical designs and continuously enhance the platform’s capabilities.

Qualifications

Strong proficiency in TypeScript, Node.js, and backend development, with hands-on experience using NestJS or similar frameworks.
Proven experience building, deploying, and maintaining scalable, production-ready web applications.
Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs, integrating third-party services, and building reliable backend systems.
Strong understanding of relational and NoSQL databases, including data modelling, querying, and performance optimization.
Solid foundation in computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and software architecture.
Experience with modern cloud infrastructure and deployment platforms, preferably Vercel.
Familiarity with Git, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software development practices.
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to independently troubleshoot technical challenges and deliver effective solutions.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment, taking ownership of projects, and collaborating within a small engineering team.
Ability to write clean, efficient, and maintainable code while balancing speed, scalability, and reliability.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to Have

Experience integrating AI models, LLM APIs, or building AI-powered applications.
Familiarity with real-time communication systems, webhooks, and asynchronous processing.
Experience working with property management software, CRM integrations, or other third-party enterprise systems.
