Director of Marketing

RGE Solutions | Calgary, Alberta | Full-time, flexible hybrid | $90,000–$120,000

RGE Solutions is looking for a Director of Marketing to lead our marketing division, team and growing client portfolio.

This is a senior leadership role for someone who knows how to build trust, make sound decisions and keep both the work and the business moving forward. You’ll report to our VP of Marketing and work closely with our executive team, with the autonomy to lead the division day-to-day.

You’ll have a capable team around you, strong client relationships and established systems to work from.

We’re looking for someone who can step into that foundation, raise the bar and bring their own

experience and ideas with them.

About RGE

RGE is a Calgary-based marketing and creative firm. Much of our work is in energy, industrial and technical B2B, alongside clients in First Nation-owned businesses, consumer brands, training and education, professional services and other sectors.

Our work is varied, often complex and closely connected to our clients’ business objectives. That means the marketing has to do more than look good. It needs to be strategically sound, commercially relevant and well executed.

That standard carries through everything we do.

What You’ll Lead

Clients

You’ll be the senior marketing lead across a portfolio of client accounts, working with business owners, executives, commercial teams and technical experts.

You’ll lead discovery and strategy, turn business objectives into practical marketing plans, and guide major decisions across brand, web, digital, content, campaigns, communications and sales enablement.

You’ll also be responsible for building strong relationships, managing expectations and bringing clients ideas that create value before they have to ask for them.

Experience working with technical businesses is valuable, but curiosity, judgement and the ability to learn quickly matter just as much.

People

Our marketing coordinators, designers, writers, developers and external specialists will report to you.

You’ll set priorities, provide clear strategic and creative direction, allocate resources and review the work that matters most. You’ll coach your team, give useful feedback and create an environment where talented people are trusted to do strong work.

As the division grows, you’ll also help determine what skills, capabilities and roles we need next.

You won’t be expected to personally execute every deliverable. You will be expected to know what excellent work looks like and how to help a team produce it.

Operations

A significant part of this role is making sure the division runs well.

You’ll oversee scope, budgets, timelines, resourcing, vendors, retainers and profitability across a busy portfolio of work.

Our systems are established, but they are not untouchable. You’ll have the authority to protect what works, improve what doesn’t and introduce better ways of operating where they make sense.

We want someone who understands that strong marketing leadership is equal parts strategy, people and execution.

Growth

You’ll work alongside our VP of Marketing and executive team on new business and account growth.

That includes participating in discovery and pitches, developing strategies and scopes, contributing to proposals, identifying opportunities within existing accounts and helping us evaluate new services, capabilities and markets.

We want someone who notices opportunity and brings it forward.

What Success Looks Like

You have earned the confidence of our team and our clients.

You understand the portfolio well enough to set priorities, make decisions and lead the division without needing constant direction.

The team knows what is expected of them and has what they need to perform.

Projects are moving, clients are supported, budgets and resources are being managed well, and the executive team has the visibility it needs without having to be involved in every detail.

And as you settle into the role, you are making your own mark: improving how we operate, strengthening accounts and bringing forward ideas that move the division ahead.

What You Bring

We care more about demonstrated leadership than a perfect resume.

You will likely bring:

  • Significant marketing experience, including several years leading teams and senior client or stakeholder relationships.
  • A track record of managing complex portfolios with competing priorities.
  • Experience managing scope, budgets, resources and timelines.
  • The ability to develop strategy and carry it through to execution.
  • A high standard for creative and marketing work, and the ability to explain what makes it strong.
  • Experience contributing to business development, proposals or account growth.
  • Confidence making decisions and taking accountability for them.

Experience in oil and gas, energy, industrial or technical B2B is a strong asset. It is not a requirement.

If your background is somewhere else and you are exceptional at what you do, we still want to hear from you.

Post-secondary education in marketing, communications, business, design or a related field is an asset, but your experience, judgement and leadership will matter more.

How You Lead

You take ownership naturally.

You are comfortable with senior executives, but you don’t need to dominate the room to have credibility. You listen well, ask good questions and give clear, constructive feedback.

You make clients feel valued and your team feel supported.

You stay composed when priorities change, know which details matter and can make decisions without creating unnecessary complexity around them.

You are ambitious, curious and always looking for ways to make the work, the team and the business better.

And you are confident enough in your own experience to bring a different point of view when you believe there is a better way.

Why This Role

You’ll start with a capable team, strong client relationships, established systems and meaningful work already underway.

You’ll also have room to influence what comes next.

RGE is small enough that strong ideas can move quickly and established enough that there is real work, real clients and real momentum behind them.

If you see a better process, bring it.

If you see an opportunity, make the case for it.

If you have experience we can learn from, we want to learn from it.

We are looking for someone who wants the responsibility of leading a strong division and the opportunity to keep making it better.

The Details

Salary: $90,000–$120,000, based on experience.

Location: Calgary-based preferred. This is a full-time, flexible hybrid role with time split between home, our office and client locations as needed.

Travel: Some travel throughout Calgary and Alberta may be required.

Reports to: VP of Marketing.

Benefits: [Benefits, vacation, professional development.]

Our Hiring Process

We want our hiring process to give both sides a clear picture of the fit.

1. Introductory conversation

A conversation about your experience, what you are looking for next and what this role involves.

2. Leadership and working session

A deeper conversation with our VP of Marketing around how you think, lead and approach real marketing and client challenges.

3. Meet the team

Final conversations with members of our team and executive leadership.

We value people’s time and intend to keep the process focused and transparent.

Apply

Send your résumé and a short introduction telling us why this opportunity caught your attention.

We would also like to understand what you have actually led. Include two or three examples of accounts, teams, projects or initiatives you are proud of, what your role was and what changed because of your involvement.

We are looking for the right person, not the right collection of keywords.

If this sounds like the kind of role you have been looking for, we would like to hear from you.
