What you will be doing
The Freight Forwarding Coordinator is responsible for the end-to-end coordination of cross-border ground freight shipments between Canada, the United States, and Mexico, with a strong focus on automotive customers and time-sensitive freight.
This position requires previous hands-on experience working within a freight forwarding environment. The successful candidate will be experienced in coordinating third-party carriers, managing cross-border shipments, preparing transportation documentation, tracking freight from pickup through final delivery, and resolving operational exceptions.
This is not a warehouse, dispatch-only, or general supply chain position. We are looking for someone who understands the operational requirements of international freight forwarding and transborder transportation and can independently manage shipments in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment.

- Coordinate cross-border ground freight shipments end-to-end, including pickup, carrier assignment, border movement, delivery, and Proof of Delivery.
- Manage shipments between Canada, the United States, and Mexico, ensuring customer requirements and delivery timelines are met.
- Coordinate third-party carriers and transportation partners for FTL, LTL and other ground transportation requirements.
- Support automotive and time-critical shipments, proactively monitoring milestones and escalating potential service failures.
- Source carrier capacity and negotiate spot and transactional freight rates while balancing cost, capacity, and service requirements.
- Prepare, issue, and review Bills of Lading and other transportation/shipping documentation.
- Coordinate with customers, carriers, customs brokers, internal teams, and other stakeholders to support efficient cross-border movement.
- Track shipments proactively and provide customers with timely status updates, pre-alerts, and exception notifications.
- Troubleshoot delays, missed pickups/deliveries, border issues, carrier capacity challenges, and other operational exceptions.
- Monitor and obtain Proofs of Delivery and ensure shipment files are completed accurately and on time.
- Review carrier invoices, approve payables, reconcile transportation costs, and support accurate customer billing.
- Manage freight claims and service exceptions in accordance with company procedures.
- Maintain complete and accurate shipment records within the transportation/freight forwarding system.
- Identify recurring operational issues and work with internal teams and transportation partners to improve service and efficiency.
What skills & experience you will bring to us
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on freight forwarding experience, specifically coordinating ground/transborder shipments.
- Previous experience working for a freight forwarder, international logistics provider, or 3PL within a freight forwarding operation is required.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating Canada-U.S. and/or Canada-U.S.-Mexico cross-border freight.
- Experience managing shipments with third-party carriers from booking/pickup through final delivery.
- Strong working knowledge of FTL and LTL transportation, carrier coordination, freight rates, Bills of Lading, PODs, and shipment documentation.
- Experience supporting automotive customers, automotive freight, or time-critical/JIT transportation is strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of cross-border transportation processes and coordination with customs brokers.
- Experience managing shipment exceptions, carrier delays, claims, accessorial charges, and other operational issues.
- Experience with freight forwarding, TMS, or transportation management systems.
- Strong customer communication skills and the ability to manage customer expectations in a time-sensitive operational environment.
- Excellent organization, attention to detail, and ability to independently manage multiple active shipments and priorities.
- Post-secondary education in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Transportation, or a related field is an asset.
