Job Description
We are working exclusively with a well-established Canadian transportation organization to hire a Senior Financial Analyst, Fixed Assets. This is a newly created, permanent role within the Financial Reporting team.
This is a hands-on role for someone who knows fixed asset and capital accounting inside out. You will be the first person to fully own this area, taking it over end to end and building the processes around it. Once fixed assets is running well, the role grows into broader financial reporting, including financial statements, MD&A and technical accounting.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the fixed asset sub-ledger, including capitalization, transfers, disposals, depreciation and reconciliations
- Manage capital project accounting, tracking costs and project status and making sure assets are capitalized on time when they’re complete
- Reconcile asset component and maintenance data between operational systems and the sub-ledger, working closely with the Operations team
- Prepare PP&E journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules for month, quarter and year end close
- Prepare fixed asset and capital expenditure audit deliverables and respond to external auditor requests
- Apply IAS 16 and IFRS 16 to real transactions, including componentization, capitalization decisions and lease modifications
- Review existing processes, find inefficiencies and build better ones to support a faster close
- Over time, contribute to consolidated financial statements, MD&A, technical accounting memos and audit committee materials
What We're Looking For
- CPA designation (candidates nearing completion will be considered)
- 3+ years of financial reporting experience with full cycle month-end close
- Practical, hands-on experience owning fixed asset and capital accounting
- Ability to apply IAS 16 and IFRS 16 to real-world situations
- Lease accounting experience is an asset
- Experience with a large ERP fixed asset module is an asset
- Exposure to public company financial statements and MD&A is an asset
- Strong Excel skills
- Comfortable working without a set playbook and motivated to improve processes
What's Offered
- Competitive base salary
- Annual performance bonus
- RRSP matching program
- Employee travel perks
- Hybrid work arrangement in downtown Toronto
Next Steps
Only candidates selected for the next stage will be contacted.
Our client is committed to diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from all qualified individuals. Accommodations are available upon request throughout the hiring process.
