Original job description

Location: Vancouver/Toronto | Employment Type: Full-time | Reports to: SVP of Strategy and Development

Reporting to SVP of Strategy and Development, we’re looking for a curious Business Development Associate to join Rival Technologies. In this role, you’ll help generate leads, book meetings, create meaningful conversations, and uncover new sales opportunities that directly contribute to Rival’s growth, working with smart, kind people who care about building useful technology, solving real customer problems, and having fun while moving fast.

This role is open to candidates based in Vancouver or Toronto, with a hybrid working model designed to support connection, focused work, and real life outside of work.

About Rival Technologies

Rival Technologies is the tech arm of Rival Group and the team behind an enterprise-grade conversational insights platform that helps brands get closer to their customers through mobile-first, messaging-based research. We build technology that captures rich, in-the-moment qual/quant feedback at scale and turns it into decisions teams can actually use.

As part of Rival Group - alongside Reach3 Insights and Angus Reid Group - we're helping transform the insights industry through AI-accelerated conversational insights, modern product experiences, and data storytelling that feels fresh, human, and genuinely useful.

We're a product- and engineering-minded team that values good judgment, ownership, quality, security, collaboration, and continuous learning. We move quickly, ask good questions, and make space for people who want to build meaningful technology with teammates they actually enjoy working with.

What you’ll own

Support a strategic account-based sales model by identifying, researching, and qualifying target accounts and buyers.
Generate a high volume of qualified sales opportunities through disciplined multi-channel outreach, including outbound cold calls, email, LinkedIn, and other channels.
Develop and manage structured prospecting cadences, maintain accurate CRM activity and pipeline information, and partner closely with Account Executives and Marketing on coordinated account strategies and campaigns.

What you bring

1+ years of business development, sales development, or outbound prospecting experience, preferably within a B2B technology company.
Experience executing strategic prospecting, cold calling, digital outreach, relationship building, and structured multi-channel prospecting cadences.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly and confidently engage senior decision-makers.
Curiosity, intellect, confidence, resilience, and a strong desire to achieve results, with a willingness to learn from rejection and continuously improve messaging and call effectiveness.
A highly organized and disciplined approach, with the ability to plan and execute both strategic and tactical prospecting activities and consistently deliver against activity goals.
A collaborative approach and genuine interest in sales, marketing, technology, or entrepreneurship, with the ability to partner closely with Account Executives and Marketing.

Nice to have

Experience with CRM platforms such as Salesforce or HubSpot, sales engagement tools such as Apollo, Outreach, or Salesloft, and LinkedIn Sales Navigator; a university or college degree is preferred but not required.
Experience working in a B2B technology company or another high-performance environment is considered an asset.

Why Rival Technologies for your next career adventure?

The not-so-fine print

You must be eligible to work in Canada to be considered for this role. At Rival Technologies, we value the unique qualities and experiences each candidate brings. We personally review every application and do not use AI or automated systems to screen or filter resumes.

If you don’t see yourself fully reflected in every requirement above, we still encourage you to apply. Research shows that people from underrepresented groups often apply only when they feel 100% qualified. We’re proud to be an equal opportunity workplace committed to building a team culture that celebrates diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

Rival Technologies provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants without regard to race, religion, age, ancestry, gender, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, citizenship status, physical or mental disability, veteran status, marital status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.

We’re also committed to an accessible work environment and inclusive employment practices. If you require accommodation at any point in the selection process, please email the people team in advance.
