About Us
Riverside Forest Products Inc. is a fast-paced forest products trading and distribution company committed to delivering high-quality lumber across North America. Our trading floor operates with the intensity, discipline, and strategy of a high-performance team.
Position Overview
We are seeking ambitious, competitive, and high-energy Junior Lumber Traders to join our team. No previous experience is required - we provide comprehensive, hands-on mentorship to teach you softwood and hardwood lumber markets, freight logistics, and client negotiation from the ground up.
This role is ideally suited for recent graduates eager to build a lucrative career in commercial commodity trading, as well as former collegiate or competitive athletes. The daily rhythm of cold calling, navigating volatile markets, and closing deals requires the exact grit, resilience, coachability, and goal-oriented mindset built on the field and in competitive sports.
Key Responsibilities
- Market Analysis & Execution: Track lumber commodity trends, pricing shifts, and supply/demand dynamics to capitalize on buying and selling windows.
- Account Development & Cold Calling: Actively prospect retail lumber yards, contractors, and manufacturers to build and expand your trading book.
- Negotiation & Trade Management: Negotiate pricing, terms, and volume for lumber shipments across truck, rail, and intermodal routes.
- Logistics & Problem Solving: Work with mills, dispatchers, and freight brokers to resolve shipping delays and ensure on-time delivery.
- Client Relationships: Build long-term trust with buyers and suppliers, providing constant market intelligence and responsive customer service.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: No previous industry or sales experience required. We will fully train the right individual.
- Background & Attributes:
- Competitive/Athletic Background preferred: Experience playing collegiate, junior, or high-level competitive sports is strongly desired (we value grit, coachability, teamwork, and a desire to win).
- Recent Graduates: Degree in Business, Finance, Forestry, Supply Chain, Economics, or a related field is an asset, but driven grads from any discipline are encouraged to apply.
- Skills:
- High resilience and composure under pressure.
- Strong phone presence and persuasive communication.
- Sharp mental math and comfort calculating margins and freight costs quickly.
- Goal-driven mindset with high emotional intelligence and coachability.
What We Offer
- Competitive Package: $55,000 plus performance bonus.
- Paid Hands-on Mentorship: Direct coaching from top-producing traders to get you performing quickly.
- Comprehensive Benefits:
- Dental care
- Extended health care
- Vision care
- Clear Career Progression: Structured roadmap to transition into a full Senior Trader running a high-volume book.
