Original job description

Responsibilities / Functional Duties

Prepare and post accurate recurring and ad hoc journal entries, ensuring appropriate documentation, account coding and compliance with organizational policies and applicable accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations
Prepare monthly account reconciliations and supporting schedules, investigate discrepancies and resolve outstanding items
Support the month-end close process by completing assigned tasks accurately and within established deadlines
Maintain accurate and timely records of donations received and reconcile donation records to supporting systems and the general ledger
Generate and issue accounts receivable invoices and follow up on outstanding payments as required
Prepare and complete quarterly GST filings and maintain supporting documentation
Prepare schedules, reconciliations and supporting documentation for the annual external audit and assist with auditor requests
Assist with financial reporting, analysis and decision support as required
Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, accuracy and consistency of accounting processes and assist with implementing improvements
Maintain organized and well-referenced working papers, checklists and documentation for recurring accounting processes
Assist with finance projects and special projects as required
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
1–3 years of accounting experience; not-for-profit experience an asset
Working toward or interested in pursuing a CPA designation (asset, not required)
Experience with donation/fundraising software an asset
Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, or similar) and strong Excel skills
Familiarity with GST filing requirements
