Controller | Downtown Vancouver (Hybrid)
Our client, a well-established and growing organization located in Downtown Vancouver, is seeking a Controller to join their finance team in a hybrid capacity.
This is an exciting opportunity for a collaborative and hands-on finance leader who brings a strong public practice foundation, industry experience, and a proven ability to oversee accounting and financial reporting for a multi-entity organization. Reporting to senior leadership, the Controller will play a key role in ensuring the integrity of the organization’s financial reporting while driving process improvements, efficiencies, and the continued evolution of the finance function.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting function, ensuring accurate and timely month-end and year-end close processes.
- Own the consolidation and preparation of monthly financial statements for a group of companies in accordance with ASPE.
- Provide financial insights and analysis to senior leadership to support strategic decision-making and business planning.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting and finance professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
- Oversee account reconciliations, working papers, financial controls, and the overall integrity of the general ledger.
- Lead the annual budgeting process, financial forecasting, and cash flow planning in collaboration with senior leadership.
- Coordinate and manage the external audit process, ensuring accurate and timely deliverables and maintaining strong relationships with external auditors.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, controls, and overall efficiency across the finance function.
- Champion the use of AI, automation, and technology to streamline reporting, enhance data analysis, and improve finance processes.
- Partner with cross-functional teams and senior leadership to provide financial guidance and support organizational initiatives.
- Manage ad hoc financial projects and initiatives, taking a proactive approach to emerging business needs.
- Support the continued development and maturity of the finance function as the organization grows.
Ideal Background
- CPA designation with a strong foundation in public practice, ideally complemented by 1–3+ years of progressive industry experience.
- Experience overseeing accounting and/or financial reporting for a multi-entity organization, including consolidated financial statements.
- Strong knowledge of ASPE and Canadian accounting standards.
- Proven experience managing, mentoring, and developing accounting professionals.
- Strong understanding of month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and implement process improvements and reporting efficiencies.
- Experience working with external auditors and coordinating annual financial audits.
- Exposure to AI tools, automation, and finance technology is considered an asset.
- Strong communication, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- A hands-on, collaborative leadership style with the ability to operate both strategically and tactically.
