Original job description
Our client, an established organization in the financial services and investment management sector, is seeking a Corporate Accounting Manager to join its collaborative finance team.
This is a highly hands-on accounting opportunity within a lean, flat organizational structure, offering broad exposure to corporate accounting, financial reporting, operational finance, and process improvement. While carrying a Manager title, the position is primarily an individual contributor role, ideal for an experienced Senior Accountant or newly designated CPA looking to take ownership of core accounting functions without direct people management responsibilities.
The successful candidate will work closely with senior finance leadership and collaborate with a Fund Accounting Manager, with opportunities for cross-training and exposure to fund accounting activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day corporate accounting activities, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and month-end close.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with ASPE and IFRS, as applicable.
- Oversee operational accounting activities, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal policies and accounting standards.
- Support investor reporting, regulatory filings, and other financial reporting requirements.
- Prepare working papers, reconciliations, and supporting schedules for external audits and year-end reporting.
- Collaborate with the Fund Accounting Manager and participate in cross-training initiatives to build knowledge of fund accounting processes and provide coverage as required.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen accounting processes, internal controls, and operational efficiencies.
- Support accounting systems enhancements and technology-related initiatives.
- Work closely with senior management and external advisors on accounting, reporting, and compliance matters.
- Participate in ad hoc accounting projects and initiatives as required.
Qualifications & Experience:
- CPA designation required.
- Approximately 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including experience in a corporate accounting or financial reporting capacity.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge, including familiarity with ASPE and IFRS.
- Experience managing month-end close, reconciliations, financial statement preparation, and general accounting activities.
- Previous experience within financial services, investment management, or a similarly structured organization is an asset.
- Strong Excel skills and experience working with accounting systems; exposure to QuickBooks or Microsoft Dynamics is beneficial.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to independently manage competing priorities.
- A collaborative, adaptable approach and willingness to take ownership of both routine accounting responsibilities and broader initiatives.
- Comfortable operating in a lean, hands-on finance team with a flat organizational structure.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
- Broad Accounting Ownership: Take responsibility for core corporate accounting functions and gain meaningful exposure to the broader business.
- Collaborative Environment: Work alongside experienced CPA-designated professionals in a supportive, highly engaged finance team.
- Cross-Functional Exposure: Develop knowledge of fund accounting through collaboration and cross-training with a dedicated counterpart.
- Senior Leadership Visibility: Work directly with decision-makers and contribute to accounting and operational improvements.
- Stable, Established Organization: Join a respected financial services business offering long-term career development opportunities.
This is a fully in office role.
