Corporate Controller, Vancouver, BC

Our client, a growing Canadian tech manufacturer are looking to hire a Corporate Controller for their growing team.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Corporate Controller will lead the accounting function and oversee a team of three accounting professionals. This is a hands-on leadership role well suited to a CPA with a strong public practice foundation who enjoys working in a growing, entrepreneurial environment and wants to have a meaningful impact on processes, reporting, and the overall finance function.

The successful candidate will bring strong technical accounting capabilities, a practical approach to process improvement, and the ability to communicate financial information effectively to senior leadership, the Board, and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and oversee the accounting function, providing mentorship, guidance, and leadership to a team of three accountants.

Own and oversee the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.

Prepare and review IFRS financial statements, including supporting schedules, disclosures, and technical accounting memos.

Prepare MD&A and financial reporting materials for the Board and external shareholders.

Partner closely with the CFO and senior leadership on financial reporting, accounting matters, and business initiatives.

Oversee the preparation of tax working papers and coordinate with external tax advisors as required.

Manage and coordinate the annual audit and external reporting process, acting as a key point of contact for external auditors.

Ensure appropriate accounting policies, internal controls, and financial processes are established and maintained.

Identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve efficiencies, and strengthen internal controls as the organization continues to scale.

Oversee accounting requirements related to SHRED (Scientific Research and Experimental Development) and other government funding/tax incentive programs.

Manage accounting and reporting associated with the company's stock-based compensation plan.

Support the CFO with financial analysis, technical accounting research, ad hoc projects, and other strategic initiatives.

Contribute to building scalable accounting infrastructure and best practices to support the company’s growth.

What We're Looking For

CPA designation with a strong foundation in public practice; experience in audit and/or assurance is highly valued.

Strong technical accounting knowledge and experience preparing financial statements under IFRS.

Strong understanding of month-end and year-end accounting and financial reporting.

Experience preparing or reviewing MD&A, technical accounting memos, and Board-level financial reporting.

Previous leadership or people-management experience, with the ability to mentor and develop an accounting team.

A continuous-improvement mindset with a demonstrated ability to identify opportunities to create efficiencies and improve processes.

Strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex accounting matters into clear, concise information for non-financial stakeholders.

Industry experience in mining, manufacturing, technology, or another complex operating environment is considered a strong asset.
