Cost Accounting Manager – 4 month Contract
Hybrid work model
Location - Downtown Toronto
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Cost Accounting professional to support inventory accounting, cost management, financial reporting, and process improvement. The role will partner closely with Operations, FP&A, and other cross-functional teams to ensure accurate inventory valuation, COGS, product costing, and financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain cost accounting processes, standard costing, inventory valuation, and COGS calculations.
- Partner with Operations to review quarterly standard costs, inventory balances, and discrepancies.
- Perform reconciliations involving 3PLs, vendor shipments, and goods in transit.
- Support Inventory Management System implementation, including testing and process design.
- Prepare month-end journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analysis.
- Analyze product costs, COGS, margins, profitability, and financial fluctuations; present findings to senior management.
- Partner with FP&A on financial reporting and management presentations.
- Identify and implement process improvements and internal controls related to inventory and cost accounting.
- Support and lead quarter/year-end audits and reviews and oversee cycle count activities.
- Perform other duties and analysis as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA is an asset.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with strong cost and inventory accounting exposure.
- Experience with standard costing, inventory valuation, COGS, month-end close, and reconciliations.
- Experience with ERP/inventory system implementations and process improvement.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Manufacturing, distribution, or other inventory-intensive industry experience preferred.
