Original job description

Our client is an independent, family-owned advisory firm with decades of credibility in the professional services space. They are expanding a private family office practice that brings tax strategy, investment management, and estate planning together under one roof for some of Western Canada’s most established business families.

They are looking for a Director of Family Office Services: a senior advisor with a strong tax foundation who wants to own the client relationship. The role sits at the center of the practice. You lead the client conversation and spot planning opportunities. You then direct a team of internal specialists to execute.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Client Advisory and Tax Strategy

  • Act as the primary advisor and central point of contact for ultra-high-net-worth and high-net-worth families
  • Review holding company structures, family trusts, and investment portfolios to identify gaps and opportunities for tax efficiency and risk management
  • Translate complex tax and structuring concepts into clear, actionable recommendations for families and their principals
  • Lead conversations on succession planning, estate planning, and long-term legacy, including multi-generational family meetings

Coordination and Practice Leadership

  • Work directly with internal tax specialists and investment advisors to turn client needs into firm execution
  • Manage and align strategy with clients’ external professionals, including corporate lawyers, cross-border counsel, and insurance specialists
  • Define and uphold premium service standards, so complex compliance, accounting, and reporting deadlines are met without fail
  • Design workflows that improve scalability while keeping the highly customized, boutique experience clients expect
  • Strengthen collaboration across the firm’s accounting, asset management, and family office teams

REQUIREMENTS:

  • CPA or CFA
  • Strong foundational knowledge of Canadian personal or corporate taxation
