Finance Manager | Port Coquitlam (100% in office)
Our client, a growing First Nations development organization, is looking to add a Finance Manager to their team. This is an exciting opportunity for a finance professional who enjoys a hands-on role, values collaboration, and wants to contribute to an organization with a strong community and development focus.
Working closely with leadership and internal stakeholders, the Finance Manager will oversee core accounting and financial reporting activities while providing meaningful financial insight to support operational and strategic decision-making. This is a 100% in-office position and offers the opportunity to play an integral role within a collaborative finance team.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the month-end and year-end close processes, including financial reporting, account reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and general accounting activities.
- Prepare and oversee accurate and timely financial statements and management reporting, ensuring financial information is complete, reliable, and aligned with applicable accounting standards.
- Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process, including cash flow forecasting and ongoing monitoring of actual results against budget.
- Provide financial analysis and insights to support operational and strategic decision-making, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Manage, mentor, and provide guidance to a Senior Accountant responsible for operational accounting, ensuring strong controls, accuracy, and timely completion of deliverables.
- Review and improve accounting processes, systems, and internal controls to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
- Partner with internal stakeholders and business leaders to support financial planning, project reporting, and operational initiatives.
- Assist with ad hoc financial analysis, reporting, and special projects, including opportunities to improve processes and support the organization’s continued growth.
- Serve as a trusted financial partner to leadership, providing clear and practical financial information to support informed decision-making.
Ideal Background
- CPA designation is required; Certified Aboriginal/Indigenous Financial Manager (CAFM) designation will be considered an asset.
- Experience working within an Indigenous organization, Nation-owned business, not-for-profit organization, or other complex organizational environment is considered an asset.
- Progressive accounting and finance experience with strong knowledge of month-end and year-end close processes.
- Experience preparing financial statements, management reporting, budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
- Strong understanding of Canadian accounting standards and financial controls.
- Previous experience leading, mentoring, or supervising accounting professionals.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate financial information into meaningful business insights.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with leadership and stakeholders across the organization.
- A hands-on, organized, and proactive approach with the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
