Our client, an established and growing printing and packaging company supporting pharmaceutical and secondary packaging clients, is seeking a Graphic Designer / CTP Prepress professional to join their Graphics and Prepress team in North York.
This is a hands-on print-production role combining graphic design and production artwork with prepress and CTP responsibilities. The successful candidate will work with Adobe Creative Suite to create, modify, and prepare artwork for production while supporting day-to-day prepress requirements, including graphics, imposition, and plate production. The position will typically involve approximately 3–4 hours of graphics work and 3–4 hours of CTP/prepress work each day, depending on production requirements.
This is not a web or digital design position. The successful candidate must have previous experience working within a printing company or closely related print-production environment. Candidates with strong graphics experience and the right printing background can be trained on the CTP component of the role.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle day-to-day graphic design and production artwork within a printing and packaging environment.
- Create, modify, proof, and prepare artwork for print production using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Acrobat.
- Manage design, layout, typesetting, image manipulation, and other graphic-production requirements.
- Review and prepare production-ready files to ensure artwork meets print specifications and quality standards.
- Support prepress processes, including graphics preparation and imposition.
- Operate CTP equipment and manage plate production for printing where experienced or following training.
- Support production across offset, digital, CTP, large-format colour plotting, and flexographic printing environments.
- Identify and resolve artwork or file-related issues prior to production.
- Work closely with the other Graphics/Prepress team member to manage daily workflow and production priorities.
- Collaborate directly with operations and senior leadership to ensure jobs are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Balance graphics and CTP/prepress responsibilities based on daily production requirements.
- Maintain strong attention to detail and accuracy when working with packaging and print-production files.
What They're Looking For
- Minimum 3 years of experience within the Graphics department of a printing company or comparable print-production environment.
- Strong hands-on proficiency with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Acrobat.
- Strong understanding of print production, artwork preparation, layout, typesetting, and image manipulation.
- Knowledge of offset, digital, CTP, large-format colour plotting, flexographic printing, or related print-production processes.
- Previous packaging industry experience is strongly preferred.
- CTP and prepress experience, including knowledge of graphics and imposition, is highly desirable.
- Experience operating CTP equipment and producing plates is an asset.
- Pharmaceutical packaging or other regulated-industry experience is an asset but is not required.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to work accurately in a production-driven environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, operations, and senior leadership.
- Organized, dependable, and comfortable balancing multiple production priorities.
- High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience.
Non-Negotiables
- 3+ years of relevant graphics experience within a printing company or closely related print-production environment.
- Strong hands-on graphic design and production artwork capabilities.
- Strong proficiency with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
- Solid understanding of print production and preparing artwork/files for print.
- Previous experience working in a production-focused printing environment; this is not a web or digital Graphic Designer position.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately with production artwork.
- Strong communication skills with a personable and collaborative working style.
- Comfortable working 100% onsite in North York, five days per week.
- Comfortable working print-production hours of approximately 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.; some flexibility may be available for a strong candidate.
