Our client is a well-established and respected heavy civil construction company with a strong reputation for quality, safety, and long-standing relationships across the Lower Mainland.

They are seeking an experienced HR Manager to join their team in a newly focused standalone HR leadership capacity. This is an excellent opportunity for a well-rounded HR professional who enjoys being hands-on while also having the opportunity to influence people strategy, partner closely with Operations, and make a meaningful impact on the overall employee experience.

Reporting directly to the Owner, the HR Manager will take ownership of the full spectrum of human resources activities and serve as a trusted advisor to leadership and employees throughout the organization.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This is a well-rounded, standalone HR position where you will have the opportunity to touch all areas of HR while working closely with ownership and operational leadership.

You will be a key partner to the business, supporting day-to-day employee needs while also helping shape HR processes, programs, policies, and initiatives that support the company's continued growth.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable operating independently, building relationships across the organization, and balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as the primary HR resource and trusted advisor to the Owner, management team, and employees.
Partner closely with Operations to understand business needs and provide practical HR solutions.
Manage the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, development, and offboarding.
Lead recruitment efforts for both office and field positions, working with hiring managers to identify staffing needs and attract qualified talent.
Develop and maintain effective onboarding programs to ensure new employees have a positive and successful start.
Provide guidance and support to managers on employee relations, performance issues, attendance, workplace concerns, and policy interpretation.
Support performance management processes, including coaching, documentation, performance reviews, and development planning.
Maintain and update HR policies, procedures, employee documentation, and records.
Ensure HR practices remain aligned with BC employment legislation and regulatory requirements.
Partner with leadership on employee engagement, retention, workplace culture, and organizational development initiatives.
Support compensation and benefits administration and provide market insight as required.
Maintain accurate employee records and HR information systems.
Support health and safety initiatives in partnership with Operations and site leadership.
Coordinate employee communications and help foster a positive, respectful, and accountable workplace culture.
Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, systems, and overall employee experience.
Provide HR reporting and insights to ownership and leadership to support business decisions.
Stay current on HR legislation, industry trends, and best practices and proactively communicate relevant changes to leadership.

WHAT YOU BRING

We are looking for an HR professional who is confident working independently and enjoys being a true business partner.

Ideally, you will bring:

5+ years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a generalist or HR Manager capacity.
Experience supporting a construction, industrial, trades, engineering, or other operationally focused environment is highly valued.
Strong knowledge of BC employment standards and HR best practices.
Experience in dealing with Union agreements and Union representatives in a full incorporated Unionized workforce.
Experience managing employee relations and providing guidance to managers and employees.
Assisting payroll by managing employee sick leave and vacation requests and holiday payroll.
Full-cycle recruitment experience.
Strong understanding of performance management, onboarding, policies, and employee engagement.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build credibility and trust at all levels.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
A practical, solutions-oriented approach to HR.
High level of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential employee matters.
Experience working directly with senior leadership or ownership is an asset.
CPHR designation or working toward designation is considered an asset.
Assisting the Owners and Shop manager with equipment tracking and management.
