Original job description

This job posting is for a current vacancy with our client.

We are helping a growing and highly innovative financial services organization with a new Java Engineer to join their Payments Technology team. This is an exciting opportunity for a developer who enjoys solving complex problems, wearing multiple hats, and gaining exposure to a broad range of technologies, projects, and business functions. You'll work closely with senior leaders, product teams, operations, compliance, and engineering stakeholders to help build and enhance critical payment platforms supporting ACH, Wires, Real-Time Payments (RTP), FedNow, and other modern payment networks.

We're looking for someone who is resourceful, entrepreneurial, curious, and excited by the opportunity to make a visible impact within a fast-moving environment.

What you will do and how you will make an impact …

You will play a key role in the development and evolution of modern payment processing platforms that support critical banking and financial transactions.

In this position, you will:

Design, develop, and maintain backend applications and APIs using Java and Spring Boot.
Work across the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
Partner with Product, Operations, Compliance, QA, and engineering teams to deliver secure and scalable payment solutions.
Develop integrations with banking partners, third-party providers, and internal systems.
Support highly reliable, secure, and compliant transaction processing platforms.
Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Contribute to monitoring, observability, and operational excellence efforts alongside DevOps and production support teams.

Why we are excited about you ...

You thrive in environments where you can take ownership, solve problems independently, and continuously learn new technologies and business domains.
You are naturally curious and enjoy exploring how complex systems work.
You take initiative and can navigate ambiguity with confidence.
You understand financial services, and want exposure to modern payments technology.

Qualifications ...

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
Minimum 3 years of professional software development experience.
Strong experience developing applications using Java and Spring Boot/Spring Framework.
Experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, or MySQL.
Experience working with AWS.

Does this sound like it was written for you?

Excellent! Please apply and let's explore this together.

Compensation & Benefits ...

The expected salary range for this position is $100,000 - $130,000, depending on experience, skills, and overall qualifications. In addition to base compensation, employees are eligible to participate in a performance-based bonus program.

The organization also provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes extended health and dental coverage, paid time off, and access to an education and professional development program that supports ongoing learning, certifications, and career growth.

Work model ...

This is a hybrid position based in Downtown Toronto, requiring employees to work in the office 2-3 days per week.

The interview process …

If you're interested in pursuing this role, please apply to this posting. If you are selected for the next stage, I will contact you for an initial discussion. This will be a chance for us to discuss the job requirements in greater detail, as well as your career goals and preferences for your next position.
