Job Title: Payroll & Benefits Specialist
Location: Edmonton, AB – 100% On-site
Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Compensation: Up to $75,000 / year + Comprehensive Benefits
About the Opportunity
On behalf of our client, an established and growing industry leader in South Edmonton, we are seeking a detail-oriented, proactive Payroll & Benefits Specialist.
This is an impactful role for a payroll professional who thrives in a dynamic environment and enjoys hands-on involvement during system implementations. The company is actively modernizing its ERP and payroll infrastructure - transitioning to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and implementing ADP - and this role will play a central part in testing, rolling out, and optimizing those systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle payroll across multiple employee groups:
- Salaried staff (~30–40 employees).
- Internal/HR staff (~20 employees).
- Field operations team (hourly/work-order-based; tracking actual hours worked, job allocations, and overtime; non-union).
System Migration & Testing:
- Support the migration from Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) to Dynamics 365 Business Central.
- Partner closely on the implementation of ADP, taking the lead on user acceptance testing (UAT), parallel runs, and troubleshooting (starting with Phase 1 rollout for salaried/office staff).
- Administer Group RRSP contributions, match calculations, remittances, and statutory deduction reconciliations.
- Identify bottlenecks in the current payroll and timekeeping workflows, recommending and implementing modern best practices to drive efficiency.
- Maintain audit-ready payroll records, prepare year-end documentation (T4s, taxable benefits, reconciliations), and ensure strict adherence to Alberta employment standards.
What You Bring
- 3+ years of full-cycle Canadian payroll experience handling both salaried and hourly/field-based workforces.
- Prior hands-on experience with ADP (Workforce Now or similar) is strongly preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP and/or Dynamics 365 Business Central is a major asset.
- Direct experience assisting with payroll software implementations, data validation, or parallel testing is highly regarded.
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation or coursework through the National Payroll Institute (NPI) is an asset.
- Strong analytical capabilities, solid Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables), and high attention to detail when tracking hours against work orders.
- Collaborative, adaptable through system changes, and eager to build scalable processes.
Work Environment & Perks
- Monday to Friday, standard business hours.
- 100% on-site, free parking.
- Competitive base salary up to $75,000, company-supported RRSP program, health/dental benefits, and growth opportunities within a supportive management team.
