About the Role
Our client, in Calgary, is seeking a Payroll and Benefits Specialist to manage end-to-end payroll processing and benefits administration. You will ensure employees are paid accurately and on time, benefits programs run smoothly, and all compliance requirements are met.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll
- Process bi-weekly/semi-monthly payroll for salaried, hourly.
- Audit timesheets, overtime, allowances, and shift premiums for accuracy
- Manage new hires, terminations, promotions, garnishments, and pay changes
- Remit source deductions to CRA and prepare year-end T4s, T4As, and ROEs
- Reconcile payroll to the general ledger and support month-end and year-end close
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries with a high level of service
Benefits
- Administer group benefits, pension/RRSP, and health spending accounts
- Manage enrollments, changes, and terminations with carriers and providers
- Reconcile monthly carrier invoices and process premium payments
- Coordinate leave programs, including short/long-term disability, maternity/parental, and WCB claims
- Support open enrollment and annual renewal activities
Compliance and Reporting
- Ensure compliance with Alberta Employment Standards, CRA regulations, and company policy
- Prepare payroll and benefits reports for Finance and HR
- Support internal and external audits
- Identify and implement process improvements
Qualifications
- 3+ years of payroll experience; benefits administration experience is an asset
- PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) designation or working towards it, or CPA/accounting coursework
- Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation and Alberta Employment Standards
- Proficiency with [ADP / Ceridian Dayforce / Workday / SAP] and advanced Excel
- Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to meet strict deadlines
- Strong communication skills and discretion with confidential information
