Payroll Specialist

Location: Vaughan (In-Office)

Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Compensation: $75,000 - $85,000 + Discretionary Profit Sharing

About the Opportunity

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Payroll Specialist to join a growing payroll team. This position is responsible for the accurate processing of both U.S. and Canadian payroll and will play a key role in supporting a large, dynamic workforce. The successful candidate will be a hands-on payroll professional who can work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a high-volume environment.

This role is ideal for someone with experience processing end-to-end U.S. payroll who is looking to further develop their expertise within a collaborative and fast-paced organization.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Processing

Process end-to-end payroll for employees across both the United States and Canada.
Administer weekly and semi-monthly payroll cycles for hourly, salaried, and executive employees.
Accurately process new hires, terminations, promotions, transfers, payroll adjustments, and employee status changes.
Maintain payroll records and ensure employee information is current and accurate.
Validate payroll data, earnings, deductions, benefit enrollments, and statutory requirements.
Assist with payroll reconciliations and year-end payroll activities.

Employee & Stakeholder Support

Respond to employee payroll inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
Work closely with HR and internal stakeholders to ensure accurate employee data and payroll processing.
Assist with benefits and pension-related payroll transactions.
Provide backup support for Canadian payroll processing as required.

Compliance & Continuous Improvement

Ensure compliance with applicable payroll legislation, policies, and internal controls.
Maintain confidentiality of employee and payroll information.
Support payroll process improvements and system enhancements.
Assist with testing and implementation activities related to payroll systems and process changes.

Qualifications

Required Experience

1-5 years of payroll experience in a high-volume environment.
Proven experience processing end-to-end U.S. payroll.
Experience supporting or processing Canadian payroll.
Hands-on experience with ADP Workforce Now (WFN).
Strong understanding of payroll legislation, deductions, and compliance requirements.
Experience managing payroll for hourly and salaried employees.

Preferred Experience

Experience working in environments with high employee turnover and large populations of hourly workers.
Exposure to payrolls involving multiple jurisdictions.
Experience utilizing Oracle HRIS or similar systems.
PCP designation or progress toward certification is considered an asset.
