Position Overview
The Operations Systems team is seeking a SCADA Engineer or Analyst to support and manage the real-time data systems that underpin critical electric grid operations. As a member of the Operations Systems Data Management team, you will play a key role in maintaining, enhancing, and supporting Energy Management System (EMS) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) environments that enable reliable real-time monitoring and control of a large interconnected power system.
Key Responsibilities
SCADA and EMS System Support
- Design, configure, test, implement, document, troubleshoot, and maintain systems supporting real-time operational environments, including hardware, communications infrastructure, telemetry systems, and operating system software.
- Optimize system monitoring and control applications based on operational requirements and project objectives.
- Maintain and support baseline EMS and SCADA functionality required for reliable real-time operations.
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call support rotation for operational systems and incidents.
Grid Connection & Integration Support
- Support the integration of transmission, generation, and other power system facilities into the operational environment.
- Review technical documentation, engineering standards, and single-line diagrams to develop SCADA and EMS data requirements.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to implement, test, validate, and commission operational data points and communications.
- Apply established project methodologies and processes throughout implementation activities.
Real-Time Operations & Incident Management
- Support incident response, troubleshooting, and problem resolution involving:
- SCADA data configuration and data quality
- Wide Area Network (WAN) connectivity and telecommunications infrastructure
- Industry communication protocols including DNP3 and ICCP
- Automatic Generation Control (AGC) systems and operations
- Monitor system performance and recommend corrective actions or improvements as required.
Reliability, Compliance & Cybersecurity
- Support compliance activities related to North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards and applicable cybersecurity requirements.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to maintain compliance, audit readiness, and operational security requirements.
Data Analysis & Project Support
- Support business users and operational groups that rely on EMS and SCADA data.
- Perform technical analysis and validation of operational and telemetry data.
- Contribute to projects through requirements gathering, testing, validation, implementation support, and operational readiness activities.
- Partner with Information Technology teams on incident management, service delivery, system monitoring, and project execution.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in an electrical utility, power systems, industrial control systems, or related technical discipline.
- Strong knowledge of complex control systems operating in real-time environments.
- Demonstrated analytical and troubleshooting abilities with strong problem-solving skills.
- Experience supporting SCADA systems in operational environments.
- Working knowledge of telecommunications systems, data communications, and network infrastructure.
