Senior Accountant

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join a dynamic finance team and take ownership of a broad range of accounting activities, including fixed assets, capital projects, inventory, payroll, revenue recognition, and month-end reporting.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys working across functions, digging into financial data, and partnering with operational teams to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. The successful candidate will play an important role in the month-end close process, internal controls, and audit preparation.

What You'll Be Responsible For:

Fixed Assets & Capital Projects

Manage the fixed asset accounting process, including additions, disposals, transfers, and depreciation.
Prepare monthly depreciation and amortization entries and reconcile fixed asset balances to the general ledger.
Oversee capital projects from initial expenditure through completion and capitalization, ensuring appropriate treatment of construction-in-progress.
Collaborate with Operations and Engineering to ensure capital expenditures are appropriately coded, approved, and capitalized.
Conduct periodic fixed asset reviews and physical verification activities.

Payroll & Employee Expenses

Prepare and post recurring payroll-related journal entries, including wages, benefits, taxes, and associated accruals.
Complete monthly reconciliations of payroll-related balance sheet accounts.
Review and process employee expense reports while ensuring compliance with established policies.
Investigate and resolve payroll and expense-related discrepancies.

Inventory Accounting

Support the monthly inventory close and reconcile inventory subledgers to the general ledger.
Record and analyze inventory adjustments resulting from cycle counts and physical inventories.
Investigate inventory variances and work with Operations and Plant teams to identify underlying causes and corrective actions.

Revenue & Other Accounting

Prepare monthly revenue recognition entries in accordance with applicable accounting standards and internal policies.
Reconcile deferred and unbilled revenue accounts and investigate variances.
Support audit activities and provide documentation related to revenue recognition.
Prepare monthly accruals for plant utilities using operational data, historical trends, and estimates, with subsequent true-ups to actual costs.
Monitor and analyze the inventory shrink reserve and make recommendations for adjustments based on current trends and supporting analysis.

Month-End Close & Financial Reporting

Contribute to month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
Assist with internal and external audits by preparing requested documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting efficiency, and internal controls.
Participate in special projects and other accounting initiatives as required.

What We're Looking For

5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
Experience in a manufacturing, plant, or capital-intensive project environment is required.
CPA designation or active progress toward a CPA is an asset but not required.
Strong hands-on experience with fixed assets, capital expenditures, and depreciation accounting.
Exposure to inventory accounting and revenue recognition is preferred.
Strong understanding of IFRS and financial reporting principles.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate issues, identify root causes, and independently resolve discrepancies.
Excellent organization and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight reporting deadlines.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across Finance, Operations, Plant, and other business functions.
