Original job description

An aerospace manufacturer seeks a Director of Compliance for a permanent, full-time role at its corporate office in Ontario, Canada. Reporting to the Vice President of Corporate Stewardship and Operational Excellence, you will harmonize Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety, Export Compliance, and production operating systems across divisions.

Working hands-on as a sole contributor, you will collaborate with divisional teams and influence through matrix structures to establish consistent governance and improve operational efficiency. You will bring deep expertise in at least one management-system discipline and connect shared ISO principles to streamline requirements. The role offers progression into people leadership as you demonstrate success, alongside flexible working arrangements, supportive leadership, and resources for professional development.

Key Responsibilities:

As Director of Compliance, you will shape management-system governance across a multi-division aerospace manufacturer. You will assess divisional practices, identify shared ISO requirements, and establish consistent governance frameworks. Working hands-on with stakeholders, you will streamline requirements without delegating tasks. Your framework will reduce duplication and improve operational efficiency. Demonstrated success will create opportunities to expand into people leadership.

  • Partner with divisional Quality, Continuous Improvement, and EHS teams to assess requirements and harmonize ISO 9001, ISO 45001, Export Compliance, and production operating systems.
  • Develop standardized governance processes and methods for communicating requirements across divisions, reducing duplication and improving clarity.
  • Work hands-on at corporate level to embed consistent practices through matrix influence, without direct authority or delegation.
  • Monitor divisional compliance, guide continuous improvement, and support the Vice President of Corporate Stewardship and Operational Excellence with operational insights.
  • Broaden expertise across management systems and demonstrate readiness for future people leadership as the role evolves beyond sole contributor status.

Key Requirements:

You bring proven expertise in Quality, Environmental/EHS, or Compliance, supported by tangible achievements and honest accounts of your contributions. You can connect shared ISO principles to build unified governance frameworks across divisions. You work independently at corporate level without direct reports or delegation and readily expand your knowledge across management-system disciplines. Experience structuring governance within matrix organizations strengthens your suitability. Exposure to lean production systems, export compliance, continuous improvement leadership, or corporate functions is advantageous.

  • Must have: Proven expertise in Quality, Environmental/EHS, or Compliance, supported by tangible achievements and honest, clear explanations of responsibilities and contributions.
  • Must have: Understanding of shared ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and other ISO principles, with experience implementing standardized approaches across multiple management systems to strengthen consistency and governance.
  • Must have: Ability to work hands-on as a corporate sole contributor without relying on delegation or an immediate Vice President step-up, with proven adaptability to learn beyond your primary specialism.
  • Must have: Understanding of management-system structure and governance within divisional or matrix organizations.
  • Nice to have: Exposure to Toyota-style or lean production systems such as Magellan Operating System (MOS), Export Compliance experience, Continuous Improvement project leadership, or corporate-function experience beyond single-site roles.

What sets this company apart:

This aerospace manufacturer promotes operational excellence through collaborative governance across divisions, streamlined processes that reduce duplication and complexity, and a networked team dedicated to continuous improvement. Flexible working arrangements support professional advancement and personal wellbeing, while an inclusive culture, supportive leadership, and investment in training and internal talent development offer progression from sole contributor roles into people leadership. Employees also benefit from generous pension contributions and access to industry-leading knowledge resources.
