About the Opportunity
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Tax Analyst to join a collaborative financial reporting and tax team supporting a diverse portfolio of investment funds. The successful candidate will work closely with Fund Accounting, clients, external tax advisors, and auditors, taking ownership of tax-related matters while providing research, analysis, and recommendations on complex issues.
This role is well suited to someone with strong Canadian tax knowledge, ideally within the investment fund industry, who is comfortable working independently, managing multiple deadlines, and identifying opportunities to improve processes and controls.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Review distribution calculations and allocation factors prepared by Fund Accounting for various client funds, including complex fund structures.
- Collaborate closely with Fund Accounting and liaise with assigned clients, external tax advisors, and auditors throughout the distribution calculation review process
- Attend external audit meetings and respond to tax-related queries
- Initiate and review distribution-related processes, including Suspended Capital Loss and Stop Loss
- Prepare and file Trust and Corporation income tax returns and related tax information forms for assigned clients
- Prepare HST returns for assigned investment funds accurately and within required deadlines
- Research and analyze the accounting and tax implications of corporate actions, including complex corporate actions affecting investment funds, and recommend appropriate tax treatment
- Review the work of Tax Analysts and provide training, coaching, and guidance as required
- Implement process improvements and procedural enhancements to improve efficiency and strengthen controls within the distribution process
- Review Income Trust Allocations and Notional Distributions and maintain tax-related Security Master data fields for assigned fund
What You Bring
- University degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
- Professional accounting designation or actively working toward a professional accounting designation
- Strong working knowledge of Canadian taxation, particularly as it applies to investment funds
- Previous Fund Accounting experience within the investment fund industry is required
- Experience with Trust and Corporation income tax returns and HST returns is an asset
- Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to independently assess tax issues and develop appropriate recommendations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
- Strong PC skills, including MS Office and TaxPrep
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Strong attention to detail and a high degree of commitment to quality and accuracy
- Ability to review, coach, and provide guidance to more junior team members
