The Opportunity

RVS invites applications for a continuing, full-time (35 hrs/wk) Communications Officer position starting October 30, 2026 at the Education Centre located in Airdrie, Alberta.

The Communications Officer is responsible for delivering a range of internal and external communications functions, products and services developed to support Rocky View Schools’ (RVS) goals and objectives.

The Communications Officer creates messaging, conducts media monitoring, prepares division newsletters, provides event support, website support, and executes communications plans.

Responsibilities Include

Assists with planning, initiating, implementing and evaluating internal and external communication programs
Researches, writes and edits a broad range of internal and external communications materials and content
Contributes to the ongoing review and update of both the internal and corporate websites to ensure quality and accuracy of information
Provides team/client counsel to understand communications objectives and make recommendations on approaches and communications strategies
Assists with team member training needs on communications platforms and technologies
Builds and maintains highly effective relationships with RVS staff
Supports Executive and Board members on communications approaches with support from the Director
Participates in crisis response as required
Attends various meetings to take meeting minutes/highlights and develop related messaging
Liaises with external agencies, partners, vendors, media, etc.
Provides a range of event support on a variety of RVS events
Prepares and updates key contact lists for media, government and other audiences
Supports daily media monitoring and other research to track for RVS stories, relevant issues and perceptions
Support community engagement plans, tools, data collection and analysis and communication
Demonstrates and models a genuine appreciation for, and understanding of, protocol, discretion, and professionalism in RVS
Embraces and models the use of contemporary and emerging technologies within RVS
Engages in professional development on an ongoing basis

Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree in communication, with specialization in journalism, public relations or related field
Minimum of three years’ related experience in communications
Previous experience within a school division would be considered an asset
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Knowledge And Skills

Demonstrated skills in interpersonal communication and public relations
Sound judgement and decision-making ability
Demonstrated event planning and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
Experience creating digital communications assets, including graphics, presentations, infographics, video and/or social media content
Proficient writing and editing skills
Ability to successfully work in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision
High attention to detail and commitment to quality
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applications
Experience with SharePoint and Office 365
