About Us:

At Rodan Energy, our mission is Making Sustainable, Attainable. As a leading North American energy services company, we provide innovative energy solutions that help clients reduce energy costs and GHG emissions, support electrification, and enhance grid efficiency. With over 20 years of expertise, we’re trusted by North America’s largest energy users, power producers, and utilities.

Why Join Rodan:

  • Thriving Industry: Join a rapidly growing sector at the forefront of innovation and sustainability, shaping the future of energy management.

  • Product Market Fit: With a 98% client retention rate and consistent YOY growth, Rodan has built a reputation for delivering trusted, long-term partnerships with industry leaders.

  • Top Talent & Strong Culture: Collaborate with high-performing, passionate individuals who are committed to excellence and sustainability.

What Makes This Role Great:

  • The Senior Accountant takes hands-on ownership of core accounting, month-end close, reconciliations, financial reporting, controls, audit support, tax, and compliance across Rodan's Canadian and U.S. entities. You'll strengthen accounting processes, improve reporting quality, and help build scalable financial operations in a growing organization.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting Operations
  • Own and review assigned transactional accounting processes from source data through general ledger reporting, including AR, AP, and account administration activity; provide day-to-day guidance on coding, cut-off, and accounting treatment.
  • Reconcile AR and AP subledgers to the general ledger; review aging, credit notes, allowances, and disputed balances to ensure related balances, provisions, and disclosures are accurate and supported.
  • Own assigned settlement accounting and revenue recognition, reconciling contracts, operational source data, settlements, billings, and accrued, unbilled, and deferred revenue; document estimates, cut-off conclusions, and judgments.
  • Maintain fixed asset, payroll, and other recurring schedules, including depreciation, amortization, and related journal entries.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations and resolve unusual or unsupported transactions promptly.
  • Review entity, department, line-of-business, customer, and project coding for complete and consistent reporting.
Financial Reporting and Close
  • Deliver assigned close components across all entities on schedule, with clear, audit-ready support; flag risks to deadlines early.
  • Prepare complex journal entries (accruals, prepaids, deferrals, provisions, and other estimates) with documented, supportable conclusions.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and flux analysis; clear aged reconciling items and explain material movements, impacts, and corrective actions to the Controller.
  • Prepare intercompany entries and reconciliations, and support consolidated financial statements and continuity schedules under ASPE.
  • Prepare standalone IFRS financial statements for U.S. entities to meet PJM (U.S. regional grid operator) reporting requirements, including documented adjustments from ASPE-based records.
Controls, Audit, and Tax
  • Execute assigned controls, retain clear evidence of preparation and review, and follow identified gaps through to resolution.
  • Maintain audit schedules and lead sheets for assigned areas throughout the year, and respond to auditor requests promptly with minimal rework.
  • Prepare GST/HST and provincial sales tax filings, and support U.S. sales and use tax and other statutory and regulatory filings.
  • Prepare working papers for Canadian and U.S. corporate tax filings with external advisors, and maintain accurate tax account reconciliations.
Process Improvement and Systems
  • Standardize and improve close, reconciliation, and transaction workflows so they scale with growing volumes, entities, and reporting requirements without a proportionate increase in manual effort; use automation and AI-enabled tools where appropriate.
  • Participate in ERP and finance-system initiatives, including requirements, testing, data validation, and user adoption; fix recurring data issues at the source rather than through repeated downstream adjustments.
  • Maintain the chart of accounts, procedures, desk instructions, reconciliation templates, and control documentation, and track whether improvements reduce close time, errors, and manual effort.
Team and Business Support
  • Act as a player-coach to the Accounting Operations Team: review work, give timely and constructive feedback, and support training, cross-training, backup coverage, and onboarding.
  • Partner with Operations, Sales, HR, and other data owners to obtain timely source information and resolve accounting issues.
  • Support reporting and compliance projects such as due diligence, legal-entity changes, and accounting-policy implementation.

Qualifications
Required
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including month-end close, reconciliations, financial statement preparation, and working with external auditors.
  • Strong technical knowledge of ASPE and solid working knowledge of IFRS, including adjustments from ASPE.
  • Experience with multi-entity accounting, intercompany transactions, and consolidations.
  • Hands-on experience with a cloud-based accounting or ERP platform and advanced Excel.
  • Ability to work with large or imperfect datasets, reconcile across systems, and identify root causes.
Assets
  • CPA designation (candidates nearing completion with strong technical skills and directly relevant experience will be considered).
  • Public accounting experience.
  • Working knowledge of IFRS, including experience preparing IFRS financial statements or conversion adjustments.
  • Canadian and U.S. accounting and tax-filing experience.
  • QuickBooks Online, Power Query, ERP reporting, workflow automation, or data-validation tools.
  • Experience in energy or another operationally complex environment.
What you bring:
  • Ownership: You take issues from identification through resolution and hold high standards for accuracy and audit readiness.
  • Judgment: You apply materiality sensibly, resolve what you can independently, and escalate complex matters early.
  • Systems thinking: You connect operational activity, source data, and accounting outcomes, and look for lasting fixes over workarounds.
  • Clear communication: You explain accounting treatment plainly and respectfully challenge inconsistent information.
  • Adaptability: You prioritize well in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment and bring structure where processes are evolving.

Rodan Compensation & Benefits Include:

  • Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000

  • Comprehensive health benefits package

  • Group RRSP with employer matching

  • Profit Sharing Plan
