Original job description

Sales Development Representative – Kitchener, ON. Compensation: $50,000 Base + Uncapped Commission

Full-Time | Monday – Friday | In Office

Start Your Career. Learn Sales. Build Your Future.

Looking to start your career but keep seeing "1–3 years of experience required"?

Not here.

Rome Transportation is looking for motivated, outgoing, and ambitious individuals to join our Sales team in Kitchener as a Sales Development Representative.

This role is designed for people who are new to professional sales and ready to learn. Whether you're graduating from college or university, coming from customer service or hospitality, or simply looking to start a career in B2B sales, we'll teach you the industry and help you develop the skills you need to succeed.

You'll learn how to prospect, connect with businesses, build relationships, understand customer needs, and develop your own book of business - while working alongside an experienced Sales and Operations team.

No logistics experience. No previous B2B sales experience. No existing book of business required.

You bring the drive, confidence, and willingness to learn. We'll help with the rest.

About Rome

Founded in 2000, Rome is a leading third-party logistics (3PL) provider committed to delivering tailored transportation solutions that help our customers move their businesses forward.

With a strong national presence and an entrepreneurial culture, Rome is in an exciting stage of growth. Here, initiative is encouraged, performance is rewarded, and you'll have the opportunity to directly impact your own success.

What You'll Do

As a Sales Development Representative, you'll develop the fundamentals of B2B sales while gaining hands-on experience with the full sales process.

You'll:

Learn to prospect, qualify opportunities and develop new customer relationships, with the goal of building and managing your own book of business as you progress.
Develop confidence with outbound calling, email, networking, and other sales strategies
Learn how to connect with decision-makers and start meaningful business conversations
Build and maintain an active sales pipeline
Develop an understanding of your customers' businesses and transportation needs
Learn how to quote and present transportation solutions
Work closely with our Operations team to coordinate and execute shipments
Develop negotiation, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills
Work toward individual sales and revenue goals as your experience grows
Develop a strong understanding of the transportation and logistics industry

What We're Looking For

Experience isn't what we're hiring for - potential is.

We're looking for people who are ready to learn, willing to challenge themselves, and motivated by the opportunity to build a career where their results matter.

You may be a great fit if you:

Are comfortable talking to new people and aren't afraid to pick up the phone
Are competitive, motivated, and excited by achieving goals
Communicate confidently and enjoy building relationships
Are resilient and don't let hearing "no" stop you
Are curious, ask questions, and want to understand how things work
Can think critically and work through problems
Are organized and able to manage multiple priorities
Take feedback well and are eager to improve
Want a career where your responsibilities and earning potential can grow with your performance

Recent college and university graduates are encouraged to apply.

Experience in customer service, hospitality, retail, athletics, fundraising, recruitment, or other people-focused environments can be an asset, but previous professional sales or logistics experience is not required.

Compensation & Earning Potential

You'll start with a $50,000 base salary plus uncapped commission, giving you the stability of a guaranteed salary while you learn the business and develop your sales skills.

As you gain experience, build your book of business, and reach performance milestones, you'll have the opportunity to increase your earnings through commission.

There is no ceiling on commission, meaning your earning potential can continue to grow alongside your performance.

Full details of our commission structure, performance milestones, and career progression are discussed during the interview process.

Why Rome?

Your first sales job should give you the opportunity to actually learn how to sell.

At Rome, you'll receive:

$50,000 base salary + uncapped commission
Hands-on sales training and ongoing support
The opportunity to learn the full B2B sales cycle
A clear opportunity to grow into a Business Development Representative role
The opportunity to build and eventually manage your own book of business
Group health and benefits coverage
Group RRSP matching
Paid vacation and personal time off
Career growth opportunities
A collaborative Sales and Operations environment
Quarterly social events like BBQs, Jays games, holiday socials, and more
Top Workplace Recognition - proud to be named one of Canada's Best Workplaces™ since 2019!

You'll be joining a team where you can learn the industry, develop transferable sales skills, and create a career path based on your performance.

Ready to Start Your Sales Career?

You don't need years of experience to build a successful career in sales. You need the willingness to learn, the confidence to put yourself out there, and the persistence to keep going.

If you're a recent graduate, new to the workforce, or looking for an opportunity to break into B2B sales, we'd like to hear from you.

Apply today and start building your sales career with Rome Transportation.
