Original job description

Overview:

Our client is a leading Calgary-based RV rental, sales and service organization with several locations across North America.

Enjoy a positive, caring, people-oriented and friendly service environment with constant exposure to excited, happy, vacationing customers. Office is employee pet friendly – dogs and cats are around every corner. On-site workout area with weights and cardio machines. This role is 100% in-office, which is located just outside of Calgary city limits. Free on-site parking.

Responsibilities:

The Financial Operations Analyst will help the North America business understand what is driving its results. Working with leaders across the organization, the analyst connects financial outcomes to day-to-day operations and looks into trends, variances, and issues that need a closer look.

This role is a good fit for someone who is naturally curious, asks good questions, and does not stop at the first answer. The work will involve practical questions about costs, asset utilization, productivity, service activity, the sales life cycle, and location performance. The goal is to turn the analysis into a clear explanation of what is happening, why it matters, and what the business can do about it.

The analyst will also work closely with the team responsible for budgeting and forecasting. Rather than owning the models, this role provides the operating context and analysis needed to keep assumptions grounded in what is happening across the business. It is a hands-on role with exposure to many parts of the organization and a real opportunity to influence decisions. Key responsibilities include:

Business Performance Analysis

  • Work with business leaders to understand their operations, priorities, and performance measures.
  • Investigate significant trends, variances, and emerging issues.
  • Connect operational measures to revenue, cost, margin, and profitability.
  • Look into practical questions – “What-if’s” – such as repair costs, inventory ageing, unit preparation time, post-sale costs, delivery costs, labour costs, guest services processes and costs, accessories (eg should we offer to rent espresso machines too?).
  • Determine whether changes are being driven by volume, rate, mix, timing, process, behaviour, or data quality.
  • Explain findings clearly to both financial and non-financial audiences.

Decision Support and Improvement

  • Help leaders turn broad business questions into focused analysis.
  • Bring together information from different teams and systems to build a complete view of an issue.
  • Evaluate options and quantify the expected impact where possible.
  • Recommend practical actions and help track whether they are working.

Finance Partnership

  • Provide operational context to the analysts responsible for budgets and forecasts.
  • Support model assumptions with current business information and analysis.
  • Help Finance explain results by linking them to the activities and decisions behind the numbers.
  • Flag emerging risks and opportunities to the appropriate model owners.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in financial analysis, operations finance, business performance analysis, FP&A, or a similar role.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, data modelling, and working with large datasets.
  • Experience with Power BI or a comparable business-intelligence tool.
  • Strong analytical skills and a demonstrated ability to investigate root causes.
  • Experience performing variance, P&L, cost-driver, and root-cause analysis.
  • Experience digging through trends and data
  • Midsized to large company experience
  • A sound understanding of accounting principles and financial statements
  • Effective communication, organization, problem-solving, and business-partnering skills
  • Experience in a multi-location, fleet, rental, sales, or service business is an asset.
  • Comfortable with employee pets often roaming the office
