Original job description

You don’t make it 40+ years in this business without good people behind you. At AdFarm, we are driving the evolution of agriculture, and it starts with hiring the right individuals.

We are the bridge between farmers and the brands that serve them. Companies come to us for strategic planning, creative services, public relations, media planning, marketing science, content creation and research. If you’re ready to be a part of a team that does these things, and does them well, we should chat.

We partner with everyone from crop protection, nutrition and seed companies to technology, sustainability, food and animal health brands. If you’re in that space, or want to head that direction, this role will be a great fit.

You will love it here if you follow these GUIDEPOSTS:

Are you being agile? Change is inevitable, whether it’s from the client, or the industry as a whole. Are you ready to get the job done well, on time and on budget? We’re all about developing and following processes that keep our teams effective and our clients happy.

Are you being smart? Knowing what to ask, how to start and what resources you have to solve problems are essential. Invest in yourself and keep up with the ever-evolving world of our clients and the wider communications industry.

Are you being helpful? If you know the ad and ag industries, you know it gets hectic sometimes. Are you ready to pitch in when it counts and do whatever it takes to deliver amazing work for our client partners? Be ready to have direct conversations when needed and set clear expectations for you, your supervisor and your team.

As a Senior Web Developer, you'll turn creative ideas and complex technical requirements into digital experiences that look great, work hard and deliver results. From large-scale WordPress websites and custom web applications to ongoing enhancements and troubleshooting, you'll take ownership of development projects from concept through launch and beyond.

You'll collaborate with designers, strategists, project managers and fellow developers to build responsive, accessible and high-performing digital solutions. We're looking for someone who sees the big picture without missing the details, solves problems efficiently and balances technical excellence with timelines and budgets. You'll also serve as a technical resource and mentor to junior developers, helping strengthen the team's capabilities.

Core Responsibilities

Lead the development, customization and maintenance of large-scale WordPress websites, web applications and other digital experiences for agency and client needs.
Build responsive, high-performing websites using modern front-end and back-end technologies, including custom functionality and integrations that support client objectives and marketing strategies.
Customize and manage content management systems, including WordPress, Drupal, HubSpot and other platforms as needed.
Integrate APIs, CRM platforms, analytics tools, marketing automation systems and third-party services.
Support the development and maintenance of native applications as needed.
Collaborate with creative and design teams to translate concepts into functional digital experiences, providing technical recommendations throughout the process.
Evaluate technical requirements early, identifying potential challenges, opportunities and practical solutions.
Troubleshoot complex website and application issues, including performance challenges, advanced maintenance requests and functionality improvements.
Perform ongoing maintenance, updates, enhancements and quality assurance to ensure websites remain secure, reliable and functional.
Test websites and applications across browsers, devices and screen sizes while applying best practices for accessibility, SEO, security and performance.
Partner with project managers and account teams to estimate development effort, establish realistic timelines and deliver within approved budgets.
Adapt development approaches as priorities and requirements change without sacrificing quality or efficiency.
Identify opportunities to improve development processes, workflows, tools and technical standards while staying current with emerging technologies and industry best practices.
Mentor junior developers through technical guidance, code reviews, troubleshooting and knowledge sharing.
Take ownership of assigned projects, proactively communicate progress and challenges, and ensure accurate, timely and budget-conscious delivery.

Must-Have Qualifications

Approximately 5–8+ years of professional web development experience, preferably in a marketing agency or client-service environment.
Extensive experience developing, launching and maintaining large-scale WordPress websites, including custom themes, plugins and advanced functionality.
Strong front-end development skills in HTML, CSS and JavaScript, including modern frameworks such as React, Vue or Angular.
Proficiency in back-end development, particularly PHP, with working knowledge of Node.js, Python or similar technologies.
Experience with relational databases, including MySQL or comparable technologies.
Experience developing and integrating APIs, third-party services and marketing technology platforms.
Strong understanding of responsive design, cross-browser compatibility, website accessibility and performance optimization.
Experience with native Android and iOS development.
Proficiency with version control systems such as Git and modern development, testing and deployment workflows.
Proven ability to diagnose complex technical issues and develop practical, sustainable solutions.
Ability to translate design concepts and business requirements into well-structured, functional digital solutions.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines.
Clear communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to technical and nontechnical audiences.
Experience providing technical guidance, code reviews or mentorship to junior developers.
Ability to work independently, take ownership of deliverables and collaborate effectively across teams.
A degree in computer science, web development or a related field is preferred, or equivalent professional experience.

In Addition, This Role Requires:

A curious, solutions-oriented mindset and the ability to look beyond the obvious answer.
The ability to balance clean, scalable development with client needs, budgets and deadlines.
Confidence in making technical recommendations while remaining open to different approaches.
Flexibility to move between large-scale builds, complex troubleshooting and smaller maintenance requests.
An appreciation for good design and how technical decisions impact user experience.
A proactive approach to identifying risks, communicating challenges and resolving issues.
Genuine curiosity about agriculture and a willingness to learn about our clients' industries, audiences and challenges.
A collaborative, accountable and service-oriented approach to working with clients and fellow AdFarmers.
A commitment to AdFarm's values in all professional activities.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this role is $110,000–$120,000 per year.

AdFarm offers eligible employees health, dental and vision benefits, automatic annual 3% RRSP contributions, a Health Spending Account, health and cell phone reimbursements, and a hybrid working environment with a wonderful group of top-talent individuals.

Our culture is paramount at AdFarm, so we hire according to values, mutual respect and the ability to work collaboratively within a high-performing team.
