RSM is looking for a dynamic Senior Manager to join the Professional Practice Office within our Assurance National Professional Standards Group in Canada. You will have the opportunity to work as a team member on engagement teams, support assurance leadership on complex, significant and emerging assurance matters; promote consistent application of professional standards, firm policies and RSM’s audit methodology; and contribute to initiatives that strengthen audit quality and manage professional-practice risk.

The Senior Manager may also serve in a secondary manager or advisory capacity on selected diverse client engagements, based on business needs, as part of our national and local practice. Our clients include local, national and internationally recognized companies.

Job Responsibilities

Provide timely, practical consultation support to engagement teams on complex, contentious, significant and emerging assurance matters.
Research and interpret Canadian and international assurance standards, applicable regulatory requirements, RSM audit methodology and firm policies, exercising sound professional judgment in developing recommendations.
Lead or support required consultations, including evaluating the facts, identifying relevant risks and standards, documenting conclusions and obtaining appropriate approvals before report issuance.
Advise on engagement acceptance and continuance, modifications to reports, independence or ethical matters, significant judgments, unusual transactions and other matters requiring National Office involvement.
Support engagement teams in assessing audit risk and designing responsive procedures, including appropriate use of specialists, other auditors and technology-enabled audit approaches.
Perform or coordinate targeted pre-issuance, engagement quality, file or thematic reviews, as assigned, and communicate findings and required actions clearly and constructively.
Identify recurring consultation, inspection and engagement-quality themes; contribute to root cause analysis, remediation and other continuous-improvement initiatives.
Develop, review and maintain Canadian policies, guidance, practice aids, consultation resources, templates and technical communications that translate professional requirements into practical direction for engagement teams.
Monitor developments in Canadian auditing and assurance standards, regulatory expectations and firm methodology, and assess their implications for the Canadian Assurance practice.
Support responses to regulatory inquiries, inspections and requests for access to engagement documentation, and coordinate with Assurance leadership, Audit Quality and Risk Management, legal, independence and other specialists as appropriate.
Design and deliver technical learning, practice updates and coaching that promote consistent, high-quality application of standards, methodology and firm policy.
Manage multiple consultations and projects, establish priorities and milestones, maintain clear records, escalate matters promptly and keep relevant stakeholders informed.
Collaborate with Canadian, United States and global National Office teams, Assurance leaders and subject-matter specialists to align positions, share leading practices and implement network initiatives appropriately in Canada.
Coach and develop team members through review, feedback, knowledge sharing and participation in broader firm initiatives.
Maintain current technical knowledge and professional competence through ongoing learning, external awareness and active participation in relevant professional activities.
As business needs require, support selected client engagements in a secondary manager or advisory capacity while maintaining appropriate objectivity, consultation protocols and National Office priorities.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field
CPA designation in good standing
8–10 years of progressive public accounting or equivalent professional-practice experience, including experience leading complex audit or assurance engagements and coaching teams.
Strong knowledge of Canadian Auditing Standards and other relevant CPA Canada Handbook - Assurance requirements; working knowledge of International Standards on Auditing and applicable Canadian regulatory requirements.
Strong understanding of audit methodology, risk assessment, audit evidence, documentation, supervision and review, reporting and quality-management principles.
Demonstrated ability to research complex matters, apply professional judgment, formulate well-supported conclusions and communicate practical guidance clearly in writing and verbally.
Ability to manage multiple high-priority matters, exercise discretion with sensitive information, collaborate across functions and escalate issues appropriately.
Experience with reporting issuer audits, regulatory inspections, technical consultations or a national office/professional practice function is an asset.

Additional Role Expectations

Travel to RSM offices, client locations or regulatory meetings may be required based on business needs.
The role requires responsiveness during peak reporting periods and when urgent consultation, regulatory or engagement matters arise.
The Senior Manager is expected to model integrity, objectivity, professional skepticism and a quality-first mindset while contributing to a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
This position involves access to sensitive client, regulatory and firm information and requires sound judgment, discretion and compliance with confidentiality requirements.

At RSM, an employee’s pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.

Compensation Range: $107,000 - $196,600

Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
