Role:
Reporting to the Chief Estimator, the Construction Estimator – Building Division is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for building construction projects, supporting Rutherford through the tendering process and into the construction phase.
This position is focused on building construction, including new construction, additions, renovations, and interior alterations across a range of institutional, commercial, municipal, and other building projects.
Proficiency in Building Connected, Microsoft Excel, and Bluebeam Revu is required/considered an asset.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed estimates of probable costs for labour, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and other project requirements based on tender documents, drawings, specifications, quotations, and site conditions
- Use BuildingConnected to manage tender documents, issue bid invitations, communicate with subcontractors and suppliers, and track bid coverage.
- Use Microsoft Excel to prepare estimate breakdowns, and other estimating documentation
- Use Bluebeam Revu to review and mark up drawings, perform quantity takeoffs, compare drawing revisions, and assist with scope review
- Act as a point of contact for invitations to tender, subcontractor pricing, and other bid-related correspondence.
- Submit bond/insurance requests to the Tendering/Office Coordinator
- Review all documents thoroughly when pricing and understand all bid submission requirements, specifications, and drawings and is ultimately responsible for the completeness of bids;
- Prepare for and promptly attend mandatory and non-mandatory pre-tender site meetings as dictated by the tender documents as required
- Complete tenders in an accurate, efficient, and timely manner;
- Increasingly take on the pricing of larger, more complex projects;
- Coordinate closing of tenders and advise Chief Estimator of potential conflicts;
- Upon project award, prepare the Project Turnover template and lead the turnover meeting with the Chief Estimator
- During project construction, communicate with Project Managers for cost maintenance and future pricing; provide pricing and cost assistance to Project Managers for requested potential changes in scope;
- Attend Post-Project Review meetings;
- Assist the Chief Estimator with the mentoring of Junior Estimators once comfortable in the role; and
- Assist the Estimating Department with methods to improve processes.
