ABOUT THE ROLE

Are you the person people turn to when technology isn't cooperating? Do you enjoy troubleshooting problems, figuring out what's really going on, and helping people get back to doing their best work? We're looking for an IT Support Specialist to join our IT & Cybersecurity team.

In this role, you'll provide hands-on technology support across the Council while helping create a reliable, secure, and easy-to-use employee technology experience. You'll troubleshoot technical issues, administer Microsoft 365 and endpoints, manage devices throughout their lifecycle, support cybersecurity practices, and help us continuously improve how technology services are delivered.

We're seeking two IT Support Specialists (one permanent and one 12-month temporary position with the possibility of extension) to join our team. We're looking for someone with a solid foundation in IT who can work independently across varied situations. You don't need to know everything. You do need to be curious, resourceful, committed to excellent service, and comfortable knowing when to solve something independently and when to bring others in.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Take ownership of employee technology needs from first contact through resolution, listening to understand the need, communicating clearly, and keeping employees informed along the way.
Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, application, connectivity, access, and device issues.
Provision, configure, maintain, secure, troubleshoot, and decommission laptops, mobile devices, and peripherals while keeping inventories and records accurate.
Administer Microsoft 365 user accounts, licences, mailbox delegation, groups, permissions, and access.
Support endpoint protection, vulnerability management, patching, device hardening, security compliance, monitoring, documentation, and employee awareness.
Manage technology assets across their lifecycle, including warranties, replacements, evergreen, secure wiping, staff sales, recycling, and disposal.
Support technology purchasing, software renewals, vendor coordination, and related operational records.
Look beyond individual tickets to identify patterns, recurring friction, and root causes; improve processes, document and share solutions, and help prevent recurring problems.
Build knowledge of Council business applications to provide effective support coverage and help employees navigate technology needs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

To be successful in this role, you will need a diploma or degree in Information Technology, Computer Systems, Network Administration, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will also be considered. Additionally, you will have approximately 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in IT support, systems support, endpoint administration, or a similar technology role.

You will also bring:

Experience independently troubleshooting a varied range of hardware, software, connectivity, access, and application issues.
Experience provisioning, configuring, securing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Windows endpoints throughout their lifecycle.
Practical Microsoft 365 administration experience, including accounts, licences, mailboxes, groups, permissions, and access.
Experience applying cybersecurity practices such as endpoint protection, patching, device hardening, vulnerability remediation, and security compliance.
Strong problem-solving and judgment, with the ability to work independently, adapt your approach, and recognize when escalation is appropriate.
Excellent communication and service skills, with an ability to listen, explain technical information clearly, take ownership, and follow through on commitments.
Curiosity and a commitment to learning, sharing knowledge, and continuously improving technology services and the employee experience.
Strong organization, attention to detail, documentation, initiative, accountability, and collaboration.

Assets include:

Experience with endpoint management, IT ticketing, inventory, vulnerability management, or security platforms.
Experience with SharePoint or Microsoft Lists, business applications, software licensing, procurement, or vendor coordination.
A relevant Microsoft, CompTIA, ITIL, or cybersecurity certification.
