Original job description
Saltworks is a 2025 Technology Fast 50 company and EY Entrepreneur of the Year award winner. We lead our industry in adopting and developing AI across our products, projects, and operations. Join us and build skills defining the next era of engineering and industrial systems.
The Role
We have an immediate opening for an Electro-Mechanical Technologist. You’ll combine design work with hands-on time on our production floor, helping take our systems from drawings to working equipment. This multifaceted role draws on electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and production planning, and is a great fit for someone who wants to grow across disciplines. We are willing to invest in and train the right person who has some overlapping background.
Your Responsibilities
- Specify instruments by evaluating process, electrical, and mechanical requirements to ensure the right product is selected for each application.
- Develop electrical hardware work packages that detail everything needed to connect electrical panels to field devices, including wiring, lugs, disconnects, and termination hardware.
- Produce installation instructions and parts lists for interfacing electrical and mechanical systems, covering field connectors, cable glands, and enclosure mounting.
- Work alongside engineering and production specialists, with mentorship and support as you grow into a subject matter expert role.
- Support production floor operations, applying hands-on knowledge to assembly, troubleshooting, and system commissioning.
- A post-secondary diploma or degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering Technology (or a related discipline).
- 2–4 years of experience building a foundation in electrical and mechanical principles.
- A high degree of organization and attention to detail, with a genuine interest in mapping out complete systems.
- The ability to multitask comfortably across a varied, fast-moving role.
- Curiosity, resourcefulness, and a proactive drive to learn new technical principles and technologies.
- The ability to read and interpret both P&IDs and electrical schematics.
- Working knowledge of EPLAN, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks (an asset; training available).
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills, paired with a positive, can-do attitude.
At Saltworks, you'll collaborate with talented colleagues to solve complex, real-world problems – designing and delivering innovative water treatment and lithium refining systems for some of the world's most recognized companies. Every team member plays a real part, from early-stage development through field deployment.
Saltworks is investing intentionally in artificial intelligence for engineering and technical work. Engineering offers one of the longest runways for AI-driven productivity and automation, and Saltworks aims to be at the forefront of this shift. We provide the training, computational capacity, and practical tools needed for engineers and technical professionals to apply AI meaningfully in their work.
We Offer
- Competitive compensation package, including medical, dental, vision, RRSP matching, life insurance, AD&D coverage, and an education allowance.
- Culture built on safety, innovation, diversity, and continuous learning.
- Collaborative, cross-functional team environment where every member contributes to project outcomes.
- Regular social activities and company events.
If you would like to join the Saltworks team, please submit your resume (cover letters are not required).
While we sincerely appreciate all applications, only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted. All applications are considered confidential.
Kindly, no recruiters.
Salary: Negotiable based on your experience, qualifications, and alignment with comparable roles internally.
