Original job description

Saltworks Technologies is a leading Canadian cleantech company solving two of the world's most pressing challenges: water sustainability and critical minerals supply. We design and build advanced industrial water treatment and lithium refining systems for global leaders in semiconductors, mining, automotive, and industrial processing.

Saltworks is a 2025 Technology Fast 50 company and EY Entrepreneur of the Year award winner. We lead our industry in adopting and developing AI across our products, projects, and operations. Join us and build skills defining the next era of engineering and industrial systems.

The role:

Saltworks is hiring an Intermediate Commissioning Engineer/Technologist to lead and execute commissioning activities for advanced clean technology systems for industry-leading clients. If you have an engineering background and experience in end-to-end project delivery, this role offers the opportunity to manage commissioning activities and oversee complex system integration.

You will take ownership of commissioning projects from planning through handover, collaborating closely with internal teams and clients to ensure successful system delivery. You will also mentor junior engineers and technologists, supporting their technical and professional development.

This position involves approximately 50% travel to customer sites, with field rotations typically lasting 2-3 weeks. Some projects may require longer stays or more frequent travel over a 6- to 12-week period, depending on customer needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead commissioning projects from initiation through completion, partnering with cross-functional teams to deliver advanced clean technology systems.
Develop and manage commissioning budgets, schedules, and resource plans aligned with overall project timelines and objectives.
Standardize commissioning procedures for factory and field activities to improve efficiency, safety, and consistency.
Represent Saltworks at customer sites globally, ensuring high-quality system commissioning and successful handover to clients.
Provide engineering feedback from commissioning activities to support continuous design improvement and innovation.
Optimize commissioning workflows to improve performance, safety outcomes, and project delivery.
Build subject matter expertise while taking on increasing levels of technical and project leadership responsibility.

You will be a great fit if you have:

A valid passport and the ability to travel internationally to customer sites without restrictions.
An Engineering degree or diploma (Mechanical, Chemical, Integrated, or a related discipline).
P.Eng. eligibility with EGBC is required for candidates applying as Professional Engineers.
3–5 years of experience in commissioning or project delivery within industrial environments, including factory testing and field handover.
Knowledge of industrial safety standards for energized systems.
Proven experience commissioning in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
Familiarity with hydrostatic testing, mechanical and electrical commissioning, and process control systems.
Strong ability to coordinate stakeholders with a safety-first mindset.
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, including troubleshooting and risk management.

Universal Skills and Attributes:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
Strong ability to organize, prioritize, and maintain a high standard of work while quickly learning new skills.
Impeccable attention to detail and a strong sense of urgency in completing projects on time.
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-focused environment.
Strong commitment to delivering high-quality work while meeting deadlines.
Demonstrated leadership potential and the ability to mentor and support team members as the organization grows.
Positive attitude, can-do approach, and willingness to roll up your sleeves and pitch in as required.
Hands-on tooling and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to apply them in factory and field environments.
Bonus: experience leading a technical commissioning crew at a factory or job site.

Why join Saltworks?

At Saltworks, you'll collaborate with talented colleagues to solve complex, real-world problems – designing and delivering innovative water treatment and lithium refining systems for some of the world's most recognized companies. Every team member contributes meaningfully, from early-stage development through field deployment.

Saltworks is investing intentionally in artificial intelligence for engineering and technical work. Engineering offers one of the longest runways for AI-driven productivity and automation, and Saltworks aims to be at the forefront of this shift. We provide the training, computational capacity, and practical tools needed for engineers and technical professionals to apply AI meaningfully in their work.

We offer:

Competitive compensation package, including medical, dental, vision, RRSP matching, life insurance, AD&D coverage, and an education allowance.
Culture built on safety, innovation, diversity, and continuous learning.
Collaborative, cross-functional team environment where every member contributes to project outcomes.
Regular social activities and company events.

How to apply:

If you would like to join the Saltworks team, please submit your resume (cover letters are not required).

While we sincerely appreciate all applications, only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted. All applications are considered confidential.

Kindly, no recruiters.

Salary: Negotiable based on your experience, qualifications, and alignment with comparable roles internally.
