Original job description

Saltworks Technologies is a leading Canadian cleantech company solving two of the world's most pressing challenges: water sustainability and critical minerals supply. We design and build advanced industrial water treatment and lithium refining systems for global leaders in semiconductors, mining, automotive, and industrial processing.

Saltworks is a 2025 Technology Fast 50 company and EY Entrepreneur of the Year award winner. We lead our industry in adopting and developing AI across our products, projects, and operations. Join us and build skills defining the next era of engineering and industrial systems.

The role:

Join our team as a Mechanical Engineer – Modular Equipment and design the factory-built process modules and tanks at the core of our product lines. Reporting to the Product Team Lead, you’ll translate process requirements into fabrication-ready skid designs with clear interfaces for procurement and production. You’ll work closely with multi-disciplinary teams while helping to improve the standards behind our designs. This role is ideal for someone who is organized, detail-driven, and enjoys seeing their designs come to life from concept through fabrication.

You will make a meaningful impact by:

Detailing skid designs from process inputs (P&IDs), including equipment arrangement, piping, frames, supports, lifting, and access.
Integrating process equipment such as pumps, vessels, heat exchangers, and instruments in collaboration with our process engineering team.
Building from reference designs and standard modules while identifying opportunities to improve standards.
Reviewing vendor and fabricator submittals for design requirements and code compliance.
Supporting our production team during fabrication and assembly by answering design questions, resolving build issues, and managing engineering change orders (ECOs) on released skids.
Issuing skid interface data to our plant engineering team, including nozzle lists, loads, footprint, weight, and center of gravity.
Producing build packages for our production team, including fabrication, assembly, and spool drawings and E-BOMs.
Incorporating lessons learned and cost-reduction ideas into our design standards.

You will be a great fit if you have:

A degree in Mechanical or Integrated Engineering.
5+ years of relevant engineering experience in mechanical or skid design.
P.Eng. registration (or eligibility) through EGBC or another Canadian regulator.
Proficiency in SolidWorks, including weldments, piping/routing, and drawing packages.
Working knowledge of ASME B31.3 and ASME Section VIII.
Experience preparing fabrication drawings using GD&T.
Familiarity with industrial process equipment and P&IDs.
Experience working with BOM and PLM workflows.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.
A proactive attitude and a hands-on approach in a production environment.

Why join Saltworks?

At Saltworks, you'll collaborate with talented colleagues to solve complex, real-world problems – designing and delivering innovative water treatment and lithium refining systems for some of the world's most recognized companies. Every team member contributes meaningfully, from early-stage development through field deployment.

Saltworks is investing intentionally in artificial intelligence for engineering and technical work. Engineering offers one of the longest runways for AI-driven productivity and automation, and Saltworks aims to be at the forefront of this shift. We provide the training, computational capacity, and practical tools needed for engineers and technical professionals to apply AI meaningfully in their work.

We offer:

Competitive compensation package, including medical, dental, vision, RRSP matching, life insurance, AD&D coverage, and an education allowance.
Culture built on safety, innovation, diversity, and continuous learning.
Collaborative, cross-functional team environment where every member contributes to project outcomes.
Regular social activities and company events.

How to apply:

If you would like to join the Saltworks team, please submit your resume (cover letters are not required).

While we sincerely appreciate all applications, only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted. All applications are considered confidential.

Kindly, no recruiters.

Salary: Negotiable based on your experience, qualifications, and alignment with comparable roles internally.

Location: 13800 Steveston Hwy, Richmond, BC V6W 1A8
