Experience: 2 – 4 years of mechanical design experience in plant or piping design.

Original job description

Saltworks Technologies is a leading Canadian cleantech company solving two of the world's most pressing challenges: water sustainability and critical minerals supply. We design and build advanced industrial water treatment and lithium refining systems for global leaders in semiconductors, mining, automotive, and industrial processing.

Saltworks is a 2025 Technology Fast 50 company and EY Entrepreneur of the Year award winner. We lead our industry in adopting and developing AI across our products, projects, and operations. Join us and build skills defining the next era of engineering and industrial systems.

The role:

Join our team as a Mechanical Engineer – Plant Layout and Piping and help turn our modular equipment, tanks, and utilities into complete, working industrial plants. Reporting to the Plant Engineering Team Lead, you’ll own defined areas of plant layout, interconnecting piping, and the module-to-plant interface on active projects. You’ll work closely with internal engineering teams, clients, and site teams, taking your designs from the 3D model through to installation. It’s a great fit for an organized, detail-oriented engineer who enjoys seeing their designs built in the field.

You will make a meaningful impact by:

Developing 3D plant layouts and equipment arrangements, placing process skids, tanks, pumps, and pipe racks for access, maintenance, and constructability.
Designing process and utility piping to ASME B31.3 in AutoCAD Plant 3D, including thermoplastic (CPVC, HDPE, PVDF, FRP) and metallic (stainless and carbon steel) specifications.
Sizing and laying out pipe racks, including tiers, spacing, expansion loops, pipe supports, and cable tray routing, in coordination with structural engineers to deliver code-compliant designs.
Preparing line lists, MTOs, and piping isometrics, applying pipe specifications, and managing BOMs in our PLM system.
Owning the module-to-plant interface for your assigned areas, controlling and tracking equipment envelopes and piping connection points so models stay coordinated across teams.
Running clash detection and leading model reviews at 30/60/90% design with internal teams and clients.
Helping develop internal design standards, including pipe supports, layout rules, and model templates, and mentoring junior designers.
Supporting projects through installation by responding to RFIs, field-verifying as-built equipment against the model, and resolving installation issues.

You will be a great fit if you have:

A degree in Mechanical or Integrated Engineering.
2 – 4 years of mechanical design experience in plant or piping design.
P.Eng. registration (or eligibility) through EGBC or another Canadian regulator.
Working knowledge of ASME B31.3 and piping specifications, with exposure to pipe stress analysis and pipe support selection and design.
Proficiency in AutoCAD Plant 3D, including line routing, XREF management, and layer management.
The ability to read and work from P&IDs.
Experience using Navisworks for clash detection and BIM coordination is an asset.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
Willingness to travel to project sites for field verification and installation support.

Why join Saltworks?

At Saltworks, you'll collaborate with talented colleagues to solve complex, real-world problems – designing and delivering innovative water treatment and lithium refining systems for some of the world's most recognized companies. Every team member contributes meaningfully, from early-stage development through field deployment.

Saltworks is investing intentionally in artificial intelligence for engineering and technical work. Engineering offers one of the longest runways for AI-driven productivity and automation, and Saltworks aims to be at the forefront of this shift. We provide the training, computational capacity, and practical tools needed for engineers and technical professionals to apply AI meaningfully in their work.

We offer:

Competitive compensation package, including medical, dental, vision, RRSP matching, life insurance, AD&D coverage, and an education allowance.
Culture built on safety, innovation, diversity, and continuous learning.
Collaborative, cross-functional team environment where every member contributes to project outcomes.
Regular social activities and company events.

How to apply:

If you would like to join the Saltworks team, please submit your resume (cover letters are not required).

While we sincerely appreciate all applications, only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted. All applications are considered confidential.

Kindly, no recruiters.

Salary: Negotiable based on your experience, qualifications, and alignment with comparable roles internally.

Location: 13800 Steveston Hwy, Richmond, BC V6W 1A8
