Original job description

Saltworks Technologies is a leading Canadian cleantech company solving two of the world's most pressing challenges: water sustainability and critical minerals supply. We design and build advanced industrial water treatment and lithium refining systems for global leaders in semiconductors, mining, automotive, and industrial processing.

Saltworks is a 2025 Technology Fast 50 company and EY Entrepreneur of the Year award winner. We lead our industry in adopting and developing AI across our products, projects, and operations. Join us and build skills defining the next era of engineering and industrial systems.

The role:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer/Technologist to join our multi-disciplinary team. You will lead electrical design for our complex and highly specialized systems, from design drawings through to commissioning on customer sites. You will be a technical resource for other teams and projects, and your work will help solve some of the toughest environmental challenges facing our planet.

Your main tasks will include:

Drafting of electrical design drawings and other documentation including single line diagrams, load lists, cable schedules, and other related documentation.
Generating detailed design of 480/600V AC electrical power panels for industrial applications as well as 24V DC industrial PLC control panels.
Generating electrical Bill of Materials (BOM) based on detailed specifications of electrical components including electrical enclosures, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), disconnects, circuit breakers, distribution blocks, fuse holders, fuses, transformers, cables, motor contactors, overloads, terminal blocks, and related field devices and equipment.
Generating cable schedules based on equipment location and mechanical installation details.
Ensuring engineering deliverables meet project requirements, internal standards, industry standards, and good engineering practices.
Ensuring work packages, installation instructions, and required parts are in place ahead of the build schedule. Resolving build inquiries with a sense of urgency.
Support the Supply Chain team with procurement of electrical hardware, components, and equipment.
Configuring various field devices including instrument transmitters and motor starters and adjusting Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) parameters.
Performing pre-commissioning checks on electrical panels, electrical wiring, electrical equipment, and instrumentation including loop checks, insulation testing, etc.
Commissioning industrial control panels with voltages ranging from 24V DC to 600V AC.
Red-lining electrical drawings for as-built changes.
Contribute to continuous improvement efforts in support of the Electrical Design team's workflows and procedures.
Leverage AI to improve speed and quality of design outputs.

You will be a great fit if you have:

A diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
5 - 8 years of experience in an industrial electrical environment; supporting electrical design, installing, commissioning, and troubleshooting industrial control panels and associated field equipment.
Hands-on prototyping and troubleshooting skills.
Knowledge of common industrial electrical hardware components and are comfortable navigating the catalog of major manufacturers for parts such as enclosures, disconnects, circuit breakers, distribution blocks, fuse holders, fuses, cables, motor contactors, overloads, terminal blocks, etc.
Proficiency in reading electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, schedules, and cable pull sheets.
Basic knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and its application.
The ability to produce electrical schematics in EPLAN and/or AutoCAD Electrical (considered an asset).

Why join Saltworks?

At Saltworks, you'll collaborate with talented colleagues to solve complex, real-world problems – designing and delivering innovative water treatment and lithium refining systems for some of the world's most recognized companies. Every team member contributes meaningfully, from early-stage development through field deployment.

Saltworks is investing intentionally in artificial intelligence for engineering and technical work. Engineering offers one of the longest runways for AI-driven productivity and automation, and Saltworks aims to be at the forefront of this shift. We provide the training, computational capacity, and practical tools needed for engineers and technical professionals to apply AI meaningfully in their work.

We offer:

Competitive compensation package, including medical, dental, vision, RRSP matching, life insurance, AD&D coverage, and an education allowance.
Culture built on safety, innovation, diversity, and continuous learning.
Collaborative, cross-functional team environment where every member contributes to project outcomes.
Regular social activities and company events.

How to apply:

If you would like to join the Saltworks team, please submit your resume (cover letters are not required).

While we sincerely appreciate all applications, only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted. All applications are considered confidential.

Kindly, no recruiters.

Salary: $100,000 to $130,000 per year (negotiable based on your experience, qualifications, and internal equity).

Location: 13800 Steveston Hwy, Richmond, BC V6W 1A8
