Key Responsibilities
Metallurgical and Technical Leadership
- Serve as the subject matter expert for stainless steel, nickel alloy, titanium alloy, and other specialty tubular products used in aerospace, defense, energy, industrial, and engineered applications.
- Provide metallurgical guidance to manufacturing, quality, engineering, and commercial teams.
- Evaluate material selection, processing techniques, and performance characteristics to support new and existing product applications, including aerospace-grade seamless and welded tubing programs.
- Develop technical standards and best practices related to metallurgy and materials engineering.
- Support alloy and process roadmap development for ATG's pivot into higher-value aerospace tubing, including titanium, nickel, stainless, and high-performance alloy product families.
- Oversee the technical feasibility review for new products, and customer specific requirements prior to quotation.
- Maintain and control technical documentation for new alloy and specialty product development.
Product Quality & Failure Analysis
- Lead structured root cause investigations involving customer complaints, product failures, manufacturing defects, and quality issues using disciplined problem-solving methods such as 8D, 5 Why, and Fishbone analysis.
- Conduct metallographic examinations, mechanical testing reviews, microstructure analysis, and failure investigations.
- Develop corrective and preventive actions to improve product reliability and manufacturing performance.
- Provide technical reports and recommendations to management and customers.
Manufacturing Support
- Partner with Mill Operations, Quality, and Engineering teams to improve manufacturing processes.
- Evaluate the impact of welding, forming, drawing, pilgering, annealing, pickling, bright annealing, sizing, straightening, and finishing processes on product quality, dimensional control, microstructure, and aerospace performance requirements.
- Support process optimization initiatives to improve yield, efficiency, and product consistency.
- Participate in Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement projects.
- Provide metallurgical input on seamless tube production routes, including purchased hollows, extrusion, piercing, pilgering, cold drawing, heat treatment, and final inspection requirements.
- Provide metallurgical input on welded and welded-drawn tube production routes, including strip selection, weld integrity, bead conditioning, cold reduction, heat treatment, and qualification pathways for aerospace applications.
- Support new product development initiatives and qualification programs for aerospace, defense, and specialty alloy tubing applications.
- Collaborate with sales teams to provide technical support for customer applications and specifications.
- Work closely with procurement team to develop and qualify new/potentila vendors
- Assist in the review of customer specifications, drawings, material requirements, testing requirements, quality requirements, acceptance criteria, and technical feasibility for new business opportunities.
- Participate in customer audits, qualification reviews, and technical presentations.
- Assist in developing advanced tubing solutions and specialty applications.
- Support customer and OEM qualification activities for seamless and welded aerospace tubing, including technical data packages, process capability evidence, material traceability, and metallurgical validation.
Product Development & Customer Support
Testing & Compliance
- Oversee and interpret mechanical, corrosion, and metallurgical testing programs.
- Ensure compliance with applicable ASTM, ASME, SAE, AMS, MIL-SPEC, CSA, ISO, AS9100, NADCAP-related, and customer specifications where applicable.
- Review and approve technical documentation, material certifications, and testing protocols.
- Review customer and industry specifications during quotation, contract review, and launch phases to confirm material capability, processing requirements, testing scope, documentation needs, and technical risks.
- Support aerospace-grade inspection and verification requirements, including ultrasonic testing, eddy current testing, hydrostatic testing, dimensional inspection, mechanical testing, corrosion testing, and metallographic evaluation.
- Support internal and external quality audits.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
- Monitor advancements in metallurgy, material science, welding technology, seamless tube manufacturing, welded-drawn tube processing, aerospace qualification practices, and advanced manufacturing processes.
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, sustainability, and cost performance.
- Support technical training and development of engineers, technicians, operators, and quality personnel.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science, or related discipline required.
- Master's Degree in Materials or Metallurgical Engineering considered an asset.
- P.Eng. designation or eligibility for registration with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 5-10 years of progressive Metallurgy or Materials Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in stainless steel, nickel alloy, titanium alloy, tube and pipe manufacturing, metal forming, welding, seamless tube production, welded-drawn tubing, or related industrial sectors strongly preferred.
- Experience conducting failure analysis, metallography, mechanical testing, and process investigations.
- Demonstrated experience applying structured problem-solving and corrective action methods, including 8D, root cause analysis, containment, corrective action, preventive action, and effectiveness verification.
- Experience supporting quality systems and regulatory compliance programs.
- Experience supporting aerospace, defense, or other mission-critical quality systems, customer approvals, material traceability, and specification-driven qualification programs considered a strong asset.

The expected compensation range for this position is $114,480-$157,410/yr. This range includes base pay and target variable pay. Actual compensation will depend on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and experience. We also consider internal equity to ensure fair and consistent pay practices. This range reflects the expected full compensation range for the role; most offers will fall within the range and not at the maximum in order to allow for future growth.
