Original job description
As member of the Assembly team, you'll be responsible for assembling both manufactured and purchased components to meet engineering specifications and customer requirements, including complex assemblies that may require adjustments to meet tight tolerances.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead the assembly, fitting, and integration of manufactured and purchased components in accordance with assembly drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
- Perform complex mechanical builds requiring advanced troubleshooting, precision alignment, and adjustments to achieve close tolerances.Review project documentation prior to assembly and proactively collaborate with Engineering, Controls, and Project Teams to resolve design issues, improve manufacturability, and address technical concerns.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and hands-on guidance to Machine Builders, Apprentices, and other team members. Support training, knowledge transfer, and adherence to best practices.
- Independently complete the assembly, integration, testing, and commissioning of highly complex automated equipment and systems, ensuring compliance with design specifications, safety requirements, and customer expectations.
- Lead machine validation activities, including troubleshooting mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and integrated system issues. Identify root causes and implement corrective actions to achieve project objectives and timelines.
- Coordinate and perform equipment installation, startup, and commissioning activities at customer sites. Serve as a technical lead during customer acceptance testing, including FAT and SAT activities.
- Deliver operator and maintenance training to customers, providing technical support and guidance throughout installation, startup, and post-commissioning phases.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance assembly processes, build quality, efficiency, safety, and standardization across projects.
- Assist Project teams with project planning, risk identification, build sequencing, and technical decision-making to ensure successful project execution.
- Maintain accurate build records, red-line drawings, and documentation while ensuring compliance with company policies, quality standards, and health and safety requirements.

Key Requirements
- Ministry Trades Certificate of Qualification in MTBI, Millwright or related discipline
- 15 years of experience in custom machine building with at least 5 years' experience leading sizeable projects and multiple people.
- Basic Shop Safety Rules and Knowledge of duties under OHSA & WSIB
- Must have a valid passport and driver’s license, as well as the ability to travel to customer sites both locally and internationally.
- Must be available to travel for periods of up to 3 weeks
The expected compensation range for this position is $35.42 - $48.71 per hour. This range includes base pay and target variable pay. Actual compensation will depend on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and experience. We also consider internal equity to ensure fair and consistent pay practices. This range reflects the expected full compensation range for the role; most offers will fall within the range and not at the maximum in order to allow for future growth.
