Summary
We are looking for an experienced Optoelectronic Engineer with a strong background in optical / optoelectronic product development and manufacturing, to join the multidisciplinary development team to support the design and development of advanced optical components, modules and sub-systems to meet our customers’ needs. The position, reporting to the Manager of Optical Design, involves both leading and supporting projects from concept definition, detailed design, process definition and development, test development, prototyping and qualification phases, through to implementation into volume manufacturing.
What You'll Do
- Work within a multidisciplinary development team, developing design and process solutions on optoelectronic products. Development projects include, but are not limited to:
- Telecom/datacom components/modules/subsystems (lasers, detectors, modulators, receivers, amplifiers, transceivers, etc)
- Sensing/LiDAR optical components/systems
- Medical, biomedical, military optoelectronic components
- Provide optical design technical leadership using your broad and deep optical design capability and experience, to help drive development projects and to expand internal expertise in the following areas:
- Concept design including the selection of key optical technologies and integration strategies
- Optical modeling (of free space and guided wave systems) and opto-mechanical tolerance analysis to assess practical performance capability
- Definition and development of advanced packaging and integration processes for compact, efficient, and high performance optoelectronic products
- Definition and implementation of processes for active and passive optical alignment and related integration approaches on advanced optical assembly equipment
- Processes to include: active/passive alignment, precision epoxy dispensing, UV curing, semiconductor die and microelectronic components bonding and interconnection, ultra precision flip chip assembly, under fill, packaging encapsulation, etc
- Product and process verification and qualification requirements, including root cause analysis and associated process optimization
- Work with thermal-structural engineering to assess impact on optical performance through advanced FEA analysis
- Support product transition into manufacturing and provide support needed to members of the production team
- Support new business development by interfacing with new customers to understand their requirements and generate appropriate proposals and associated quotations
- Some travel may be required
- A graduate degree in science or engineering (in a relevant discipline) is preferred
- Minimum of 6 years of direct and relevant industry optical product design experience
- Expertise in product design and development, from concept to qualification, preferably with experience through volume manufacturing introduction
- Demonstrated ability to work within and to provide technical leadership within high performance optical product development teams
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are required
- The compensation range for this position is $110,000-$160,000 annually.
- This position is for an existing vacancy.
- The hiring process for this position does not use Artificial Intelligence (AI).
